At 5:25 this morning, we had an earthquake. My husband slept through it, but my big cat didn't. He lived through the Very Scary Earthquake in 1989, and apparently doesn't like the earth moving htat way...
I got up to get into the doorway, but it was over by the time I was standing, so I came down here and checked the USGS site. Yep. That was an earthquake all right...
Very short, rather rolling style. The rolling quakes do much less damage than the grinders.
Just thought everyone should know, so that you could be sympathetic towards me for a moment or two...

I feel kinda bad that I didn't mention that this was a TINY earthquake. We have them pretty frequently, and this one was so very short that it hardly would have registered on me if I hadn't been lying in bed staring at the insides of my eyelids...
Thank you, though, for your concern. It does make me smile.
(Honestly -- the freakiest part of this was the moment of sleepy confusion about whether that really had been an earthquake, if a very large truck had rumbled down the street, or what. My husband -- who is sometimes very silly -- suggested maybe it was only him f--ting in his sleep... If it was, the USGS picked it up on their sensors...)

I'm laughing about your husband's suggestion!!
If his name was Tom - you know how they say it's a 3 or a 4 on the scale - they could call it a Tom-level earthquake!!!! LOL
Glad it was little. Kath

Earthquakes can be scary, especially if you've been in big ones.
Are you talking about the 1989 earthquake with it's epicenter in Santa Cruz, California? I was in Daly City back then, near San Francisco. I was 8 years old. I was born in Santa Cruz and I think some of my Mom's friends' homes got damaged. Some people were killed when their homes tumbled down. I remember my Mom was late in picking me and my sister up from daycare because she got stuck in the subway.

Wow - usually my sister calls me if there has been a quake. If it's strong enough to feel, she also checks the USGS site. It's surprising sometimes where the origin (I know that has a special name, it escapes me at the moment) is.
I'm glad you're OK and that the kitty got over it!

May you have the excitement of tiny earthquakes and no disaster of big ones! Sorry I missed it.

Are you kidding?? No sympathy from me, girlie. Shake me up better than that.
Maybe we'll have one when Alldone is here? Can we order it up?
:)

> :)What's this? Ordering earthquakes?? You better not...I'm from Chicago. Be gentle with me, Daisy. The closest I get to an earthquake is when my dear husband's had too many beans for dinner. ;)
