I have a spider noise

Posted by gardenergirl on June 5, 2006, at 19:39:35

And you very likely just heard it a little bit ago. Even if you are on a different continent.

Seriously.

It was very loud this time.

'splanation: I have this noise I make when I see a spider. It's sort of a choked gasp. My husband recognizes it and knows exactly what it means: I've seen a spider. And I need him to come deal with it. I've actually been a bit better lately about spiders.

But not anymore!

There's a gi-normous spider in my garage right now. I just saw it near the garage door when I went down there to open it for my husband. (He's on his way home, and I like to open the door for him if I think about it in time.)

Any way, it's as big as a diet coke can (diameter). I am not exaggerating. And it's not a Daddy-longlegs. It's fat. And ugly. And scary as all get out.

In fact, I want to get out. Seriously. I don't know if I want to cry, run or some other thing. I actually whimpered a few times. And rocked. My heart is still racing and I'm not really breathing very deeply.

My husband just called to say he's delayed. He's actually picking up an emergency prescription of Lamictal for me, since I'm absolutely out and my mail order has not arrived yet. He's dealing with the insurnace issue right now. He's a gem. I'm grateful he's getting my meds on hiw way home. But I want him HOME RIGHT NOW!

The spider is no longer in sight. I HATE THAT! WHere is it???????

AAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHH

(not a representation of the spider noise)

whimper

Gg don't they come in pairs? Wonder where the other one is. Look up it could be hanging on a web. Run fast and get out of there. Is it a tarantula? Love Phillipa ps bet I'm not on your friend list!!!!!!!

no sweat GG, just go for a walk. get out of the house.

Husband will come home and smoosh it. That's his job.

Unfortunately, in my house, the husband has some religious qualms with taking life. *I* get to do the smooshing, unfortunately, I'm also the one who hates the buggies.

no fair, huh?

While I'm not generally afraid of bugs, and usually carry spiders outside, one that side would have me screeching for my husband.

Rodents make me absolutely hysterical.

No smooshing. He actually had to beat it! I heard him.

And he agreed it was gi-normous and was quite empathetic about my fear. (I just love that guy!)

Anyone remember the really gi-normous spider who lived in a cave on Gilligan's Island? That thing scarred me for life, I swear.

Still shaking a bit but the wine is helping,

GG, we can huddle and whimper together.

The thick ones are extremely scary. Big AND thick? Run for the hills!

I would scream if I saw a thick spider the size of a coke can!

Just thinking about this is freaking me out! GG, I hope you're okay. I hope your husband gets the spider.

I'm okay with domesticated rodents. Wild ones, I'm afraid of, unless they are hamsters. (Are there even wild hamsters now?)

Get one of those battery-operated bug vacuums. They've got a long tube with a little scoop at the end. Put it over the bug, press the button, and whoosh! Little bug is sucked up into a disposable canister.

Brookstone has one. Check it out at: http://www.brookstone.com/shop/product.asp?product_code=200444&world_code=3&category_code=35&subcategory_code=609&search_type=subcategory&prodtemp=t2

Wondrous things!

We've had one for years.

I really do carry spiders outside, but I'm happy to use the bug vac on mosquitos and other flying beasties.

However, they do have their limits, and gg's spider sounds as if it would challenge those limits.

Wow! I may have to get me one of those bug vacuum things! I'm okay with spiders, unless a big old tarratula was in my house or something, that would freak me out. My real fear though is those giant roaches. They call them water bugs here, but I think they're actually called palmetto bugs. I had one horrible summer where I woke up at least 4 different times to find one crawling on me! I was already scared of them, but that caused me to be even worse. I was living in the attic at the time, and I think they came from under the house and crawled up the inside of the walls, coming out in the attic. I ended up sleeping on the couch for a long time, even though I knew they could just as easily get on me there. I seldom see them where I live now, but when I do, Kitty gets them before I ever have to see them (alive anyway). Good Kitty!

I *hate* those. One flew up out of a can of dog food when I was young, scared the bejeebers out of me, and turned me off them forever.

Although the little german cockroaches are more disgusting in their own way. My parents' home was infested and they were so *bold*! They'd just walk up the underside of your dinner plate and wave their antennae at you.

Brrrrr....

I got bitten by a brown recluse in VA Beach. My calf swelled up and turned red. Wouldn't go to the Er as I knew they would put on IV antibiotics so went to an outpt clinic they gave me the oral ones and betadine soaks 24/7. It got better. I think this when they told me they come in pairs. Love Phillipa

Ugh, those are really scary! If the one last night had actually been inside the house, I just can't imagine I could stay inside. I was rattled enough just knowing it was somewhere in the garage.

shudders

I haven't been that genuinely scared in a long time. I'm so very grateful my husband didn't laugh at me, and actually validated my feelings. :)

I just wish it was under different circumstances.

Hugs, emmy

yes, there is a big concern in my house that one of us (the more devout buddhist) will be going to buddhist He*l if he kills. The other one is more concerned about the buggies. Guess who gets the dirty work? usually we try to catch and release. but this is not always possible, or humane.

Be concerned about your karma. guard it carefully. It's precious. I used up a lot of my good karma about 2 months ago. I'm trying to get it back. It's slow going.

Gotta run. Must go make merit!
