Hey, Deneb, see if you can post from somewhere during the weekend so you can share how it's going.
I hope you have fun - maybe I'll get to meet you some other time.

I just bought a new memory card for my camera. Of course, individual vetoes apply to any photos. You won't ever see any that aren't approved, eh?
BTW, I may not be much fun to hug right now. I'm diaphoretic from the pain, so I'm always clammy.
I guess I better get some sleep. It's gonna be a big few days ahead of me.

Yes, I got most of the Babblers to Swiss Chalet. And Bob did the back bacon on a bun thing. It's so funny, 'Mericans don't get this back bacon concept. Why would we call it Canadian bacon? Hmmmm?

geez you guys have been watching too many movies.
Each province's city in Canada is like a different country. Toronto is like Chicago, Montreal is like Paris, Calgary is like Texas, etc.Take a look at one of our satirists' vision and political reflection:

> geez you guys have been watching too many movies. That's what we call it in Ontario, Squig. Mike Myers was a FOAF when I was a teenager. He stole "No way!" "Way!" off me, when we were having coffee at Tim Horton's at Kennedy and Eglinton, SW corner, circa 1976. I receive no royalties, however.

Not! ;-) No offense to Chicago, but.....

I don't know what you're talking about, Squig. Montreal is nothing like the Paris I went to, etc. I never saw smoked meat in Paris.

Note to 'Mericans. Poutine is french fries with cheese curds and (usually) chicken gravy (in the original form). Nowadays, though, mozzarella and beef gravy are more typical in Ontario. It tastes a whole lot better than it sounds, and it is guaranteed to fill that hunger hole. Poutine means "mess", more or less, and it sure looks like one.

P.S. To 'Mericans. You can tell that a Canadian is from Toronto if they pronounce it Trawna.

French fries, cheese curds (whatever curds are) and GRAVY? I think I'll just stick with Canadian back bacon as my Canadian food, and leave the gravy for my biscuits. ;-)
>P.S. To 'Mericans. You can tell that a Canadian is from Toronto if they pronounce it Trawna.
That's like people from New Orleans (and more than a few around here) say 'Nollins'. At least that's my best guess at spelling the pronounciation. Dinah can correct me.

Some say that. But most of us just say something between New Orlenz (short e) or New Orlunz (short u) with maybe a bit of New Orlinz (short i) thrown in. It's kind of indeterminate.

Well that's a relief, I don't like saying it 'Nollins'. Its okay for the natives, but I just sound funny.
The way I say it is 'New Orlunz' .
> Where is the em-phas'-is?
As far as I know, its on the 'Or'.
I like accents. We moved alot growing up. As kids you pick up accents pretty easily. Lets see, my accents went from North Tx to Minnesota, then Upstate New York, then Central TX, then East Tx, and back to North Tx. I did all that while in Elementary and High School. East Tx accents are similiar to West Tx accents (Dubya), but I can always tell the difference.

Hmmm... The Or, I guess, from default.
I don't know. Even within town there are a lot of variations in accents. I know people who really do say dawlin'. I just asked my husband how to spell that, and I had to wait for him to stop laughing at my unconvincing New Orleans accent.
But if you want to hear some genuine "yat" accent (I think that comes from the contraction of "you at", but if I'm incorrect and it's not a polite way to refer to someone, I apologize) I suggest Benny "Grunch" Antin's "The 12 Yats of Christmas" with such classics as "Ain't Dere No More" and "Over By Your Mama'n Nem". Just don't ask me to sing along because I apparently have a laughable New Orleans accent. (All I learned of speech came from the Brady Bunch and other reality based TV shows that I used as role models growing up.)
This is the end of the thread.
