Well, I just learned minutes ago that I am the sole recipient of a glorious fellowship that will launch me from having zero dollars to do my dissertation research to a stipend ever so slightly above the poverty line. (An infinite increase)
But. I don't feel the joy. my advisor is beside herself. I feel no excitement whatsoever. what the F*? A year ago, I would be calling everyone I know "guess what? guess what!!!!?" Now, ho hum. another friday. nothing to look forward to...
I think I will email T about this interesting development.

In reply to good news, but not happy?, posted by llrrrpp on May 19, 2006, at 9:57:15
It's depression.
I go through these periods where I just don't know what's wrong with me, but I don't seem to be able to react appropriately to anything. And I'll bring it up with my therapist -- who'll remind me, "Depression does that..."
I'm sure there's more to it than that, but that's part of it, I'm sure.
Congratulations on your fellowship.

If this achievement won't make me happy, maybe nothing will. What's the point?

That's sweet Lar
maybe my big project this weekend will be making buttertarts. I'm a good baker. If I *act* better, I might *feel* better? it might get me out of my slump?
well, regardless. eat one for me :|
Requiem for a Buttertart.
bon voyage

Yup depression what a bummer. But maybe you will feel it later . Maybe it hasn't sunk in yet. And the best med is a buttertart. Love Phillipa

well, depression makes everything seem like it will never get better but that is NOT true. with the right treatment for you and support you can feel better. i have went through the worst major episode of depression that started at 23-24 and now 5 years later it is FINALLY getting better. some days are better than others but it's a huge improvement. i once felt like you do now but there is hope....

At least I won't be penniless and depressed. I will be penniful and depressed. happy to know the big D can be conquered, or at least subdued.
congratulations to the healed ones. I will wait for those days. now I will go home to distract myself with my first batch of Netficks.
still no buttertarts for me. a reward for self-loathing is no reward at all.

Look, I think it's fantastic (you don't have too). There's nothing like having enough money to live on. It's an infinite increase and you don't even have to enjoy it.
This is the end of the thread.
