I'm not sure where I should post this, but since this is where I always post I'll try here.
How on earth do you decide on a new therapist? My old one was recommended by my family physician, so I never had to decide anything. Oddly enough, my pdoc recommended the very same person, my old T. I was like, well, I owed them money and it got turned over to a collection agency so I don't think I can go back there. Plus, I really felt like I had reached the end with her and was ready to move on to someone new.
So how do you decide? Do you look for someone who specializes in anxiety? Almost every one on my list from my pdoc just says: treats adults, couples, adolescents. Do I just call them all and ask what they specialize in?
I drove by three locations today that were on the way home from work. The first one, which my pdoc circled, just treats OCD. I managed to catch her in between appointments and talked to her for a minute. I don't think its what I'm looking for though. She said she specializes in OCD and not anxiety. I said, well isn't OCD an anxiety disorder? She said yes and then started talking about how it was hard to get insurance to cover her services. Don't get me wrong, she was sweet as she could be, but I just left confused.
The next had a big sign that said 'Marriage Counseling', which made me think, this can't be right, so I didn't stop. Plus it was a guy and I just think I'd be more comfortable with a woman.
The third offers biofeedback, but doesn't say whether she also does therapy. I stopped there but it was already closed.
So I came home thinking, how on earth am I going to figure this out?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you know anyone seeing a therapist you know. Ask people and as they will tell you on phychology interview three. But that cost money. See if any have websites. I've found a lot do. Good luck it's really hard. Still haven't found the right one saw one that specialises in anxiety today. But a realaxation tape come on!!!!!Love Phillipa

I have found that recommendations from my pdoc have been the most valuable. I get more than one name from her because many times, the good ones aren't taking on new clients (because they are good!). Going for an appointment to check them out is a good idea.
I have gone the "on the insurance plan" route and have suffered for it. Just my experience, but the few I tried actually set me back, I think.

Thanks yall. I guess its just going to take footwork. I just didn't know how good I had it before. But I was already thinking about trying to find a new T when I was still going to her. We had just reached a place where I just couldn't see it going any further. Should I try this post on Psychology?

I posted a link on psychology once and asked how to find a good therapist and most said to interview three and see who the best fit is for you. Love Phillipa
