Um.. well. My Mums getting married

Posted by NikkiT2 on April 5, 2006, at 13:48:45

Just had my Mum on the phone to tell me she is getting married in August!

Hmmmm..... hmmmmm.. I am so unsure how to feel.

Now, all I want in my Mum to be happy.. She has had a few "boyfriends" since we lost my Dad, and has been living with A (her fiance) for the last 2 years..

but the problem is.. I *really* don't like A! I did at first, but the more I have got to know him, the more I have grown to detest him. He is an alcoholic, who gets aggresive, argumentative and, well, pervy when drunk. He gets so offensive if I have an opinion on something that differs from his that I often end up walking out of the room. Over the last few months Mum has considered leaving him, but feels she can't afford to live alone..

So, she is going to marry him..

*sighs* I want to be happy and excited.. I faked it excellently, with lots of discussions about colour schemes and frocks, and lovely stiletto shoes.. but.. this man..

*frowns*

Hey there,

Well I can only sympathize with your situation. My parents have had *SEVEN* marriages between them. My dad is on number four right now, and well, er..... basically his wife is Russian, my father was always abit shady about how they meet. She seems nice enough - but, well, she spends most of her time back in Russia. And er, hmmm, I'm not so sure she would like him if he weren't high up in the Navy. Anyway, that said, she seems nice enough, pretty genuine, but then...? His third wife was South Korean, who ran off with a load of his money. Apparently she made him invest in a load of Korean things, which turned out to be phony. My dad has a thing for foreign woman - my mother is Finnish, wife number two, and I'm the product of that happy union (not!). You couldn't make this up....

I acted as the witness at my dad's wedding - was abit weird.

I know how you feel.

Oh well. I know all about hiding behind 'happy for you' masks.

Kind regards

Meri

I am consoling myself with the fact I can buy this gorgeous silk frock I have had my eye on, and some sexy stilettoes *grins*

She's even converting to Catholism for it..

Thanks for sympathising.. its a whole new thing for me!

Oy, talk about a situation primed for mixed emotions. Oy.

That's about all I can say at the moment. I feel for you.

Not a good situation. I think maybe talk it over with a counsellor and see if maybe she would come with you and put the facts on the table that it is possible he could become abusive. Or that maybe before she marries him he needs to go to treatment first. I don't know what else to say. Sorry Nikki Love Phillipa
