A much loved Texas based artitst. I have so many great memories of going to see his shows. He was truly an original. I'm heart broken.
R.I.P. Chris
We loved you.

I was watching Lost and started crying about it at the end. Then I started crying about Chris Whitley. Then I started crying about the friends I used to go see his shows with because I had a falling out with one of them and we haven't spoken since. Then I started crying about how I have no friends. Now I'm just crying and can't seem to stop.

... today at work a lady that had been on layoff over the summer asked me how my Grandmother was doing. I was so shocked I almost couldn't speak. I've never really dealt with her death. Holidays don't help much either. They just remind me of everyone who's not here anymore.

((((((TexasChick))))))) You are such a wonderful person. I'm sorry you are sad right now. Go make yourself some homemade cookies (or store bought if you prefer) and take a nice long hot bubble bath. I don't like to see you cry :*(

I can totally relate to this. But it also reminds me of the good times I had with them during the holidays. And for those memories, I am Thankful.

Thanks Ang, you're so sweet. I feel much better today. I think that cry was a long time coming. I haven't cried since I watched them turn all the machines off on my Grandmother in the hospital and waited for her to die. I was going to go in the room with my Mom, (my brother elected to stay outside and smoke, my sister was at work) but when I got to the doorway I just couldn't do it. So I stood outside in the hall and looked in. I couldn't seem to go near her after they amputated one of her legs. She never woke up after that surgery, which I'm grateful for. It has never seemed real to me. I keep thinking she's somewhere & I need to go visit. She was like my best friend for so many years.

He died of lung cancer. He was a heavy smoker, but I don't know if it was that kind of cancer or not. He always smoked these hand rolled cigarettes. We thought they were joints for a long time. He always had a tragic feel about him, which is why its so haunting now.
