I started my formal job search in October 2004 after being a stay-at-home mom since 2000. The job market in rural N. Michigan is terrible! I'm looking for work with pre-schoolers and/or anything else I can do with my BS in English and may end up doing licensed child care in my home since my youngest child just turned two. I was ist runner up for a job as a medical receptionist in September. I was in pre-nursing in college for a year, so health care would work too.
How is it in the rest of the world right now? What kinds of jobs are hot? Are you working AND looking? What to do!?

Colleen Nursing is really hot! Job shortage all over the country. I'm an RN current license. if I can get a med to work I will return to work. So far since we've moved to Charlotte I've been offered three jobs in nursing without asking. Had to say no for now. Fondly, Phillipa

I wish you luck and really hope that you find something in your field.
I gave up full time work (in the quality related field) in February and am in total 2 minds as to whether I should go back to work or not. A career in this field is not easy to come by - but it was my choice to 'lose' this job after 8 years before I lost my mind.
I am working at home - admin and books for hubby's business - but cannot decide, as you say "What to do!?"

Good luck deciding what to do and finding a job.
I'm looking, myself - only for a part time job as I have 30 hours of classes per week - and it has not been going well. It's amazing how hard it can be just to get a McJob. Starting another round of applications this week.

Sometimes I wish I had gone for nursing, but the school I went to was very competitive in its program and I quit the curriculum because of stress. So I know what you mean about needing to find a med that works to get you back out there in the working world. I think my being on Effexor and clonazepam would help me handle stress in the workplace, but I think I would be exhausted coming home to three little ones if I worked full-time! So I guess I be a stay-at-home mom until the right part-time job comes along.
Thanks,
Colleen

Thanks for the good wishes.
I am really trying to be patient and enjoy my time with the kids, but I miss the adult interaction. I also gave up a good full-time job to be home with my son and here I am still.
Some days I think I could handle it again especially now that I'm on meds, but then again my mental health has changed so much since I was younger and more outgoing. I feel safe here for now so I'm being rather picky about what jobs I consider.
I believe that there are reasons for the way things happen, so with that being said, maybe I need to concentrate on appreciating having the luxury of staying home for a bit longer.
Good luck with your choice/decision!
