Hello, I'm ruminating....

Posted by sleepygirl on August 23, 2005, at 21:40:42

Why?, you ask, am I sharing this with you? (or perhaps I asked that)
Well because I worry about people, and the harm they can do to themselves-I was born hypervigilant regarding just this sort of thing.

So, I ask, as a person whose moods can be quite overwhelming and just plain crazy-how do you manage a healthy amount of concern for others in such states.

Its hard. When the moods get intense your attention is captured by that and its oh so hard to focus on anything else.

But... Focusing on other things can be what you need (as a short term getting through strategy). It can be hard... But if I MAKE myself then it can help me feel better. And if other people feel helped / appreciate my posts then that helps me feel better.

:-)

But... Maybe thats not what you meant. Did you mean how do you not get over-involved?

Well... I guess its not so hard for me because my problem tends more towards my being over-focused on myself.

Hi Sleepygirl,
I don't know how to help you because I am dealing with the same thing and right now am thinking about running away from it, quitting. I hope you find what you are looking for darling.
Thinking of you,
-Ang

You got what I mean- I am trying to understand it from both sides.

I guess I want to know how not to get carried away on either side, you know to be accepting of the feelings, but maybe focus on other, more positive, supportive stuff. I'm a bit worried about a friend who is going through some stuff related to a trauma :-( not easy- I think she needs a bit of grounding

Well I hope you can weather it well. Is there anything that would help make it easier? Thanks for the input.
Take good care

Hey Sleepy,

I think my pc is trying ot tell me something. Everytime I try to reply to your post it crashes - 4 x now GRRRHHH.

My advice is just to follow your heart and be guided by your understanding of the person. As long as it comes from caring and love, if you're a bit to strong they'll understand and help you to be okay that they're okay. The important thing is to show you care, offer what support and assistance you can and then leave it up to them. Kinda like puting a roast in the oven. You need to keep an eye on it from time to time but not stand in front of the oven door the whole time. You can go and do other things and just check back every now and then to see how it's going, and do whatever needs to be done. Am I talking complete sh*t here or what? Hmmm, yep I think so.

Quite thoughtful I think. I hope your computer stops crashing-how dare it try to keep you from posting to me! I hope you're feeling well again dear damos. I'm gonna go check on my roast. :-)

Yes, it was downright rude of my PC and I told it so - several times

Back to my normal abnormality ;-), thanks sleepygirl. Hope I didn't cause you too much concern.

So what time's dinner? Are you doing roast taters too?
