Huge weekend coming up

Posted by MidnightBlue on May 11, 2005, at 21:30:27

I don't want to go into details, but I am really nervous about it. Big family event and I have to travel to get there. Not easy for me because of physical disability. AND except for Ambien I have no "chill pills."

Don't get me wrong, this is a happy event, but the stress level will be high. Any suggestions? I have little to NO control over what happens. I just have to go and enjoy myself----why is that so hard?

Just consider that your family, at least some of them and probably most of them, do want good things for your life just like you want good things for their lives. Any "failings" you feel you have are matched with "failings" that they feel they have. You have an unquestionable, irrevocable place of belonging with your family, with and perhaps because of everyone's imperfections. There are at least a few other family members that are as anxious about this reunion as you are. They will be greatful if you offer them a friendly face and then they will reciprocate.

Maybe I'm way off. Every family is a little different. I hope everythings turns out well.

Even enjoyable events can be stressful. I generally admit that and see if there are things I can do to decompress from time to time. Can you make alone time for yourself? Is there someplace that is usually quiet where you can get away for a bit if you need to?

Is it too late to take up meditation? :)

If all else fails, muttering the serenity prayer to myself sometimes helps.

Weekend was wonderful. EXHAUSTING! but wonderful. The trip physically was hard on me and 1,000 things went wrong, but the event went really really well. Emotionally, I did pretty darn good! Now I'm just dead tired.

Glad it went well. » MidnightBlue

Things are rarely as bad as the anticipation of things. But this one was nice! Even better.
