I think I'm experiencing a bit of mania tonight. Thank God I don't have access to credit cards any more.
My thoughts are racing but I feel the bed calling to me. I really don't know what the hell is happening.
I found a mental illness support group that meets two nights a week here in Austin and I think the timing is good. I've just felt nuts all day.
I found the site through crazymeds.org. I haven't wanted to do therapy and ACOA meetings haven't interested me lately but the bipolar and depression meetings piqued my interest. If I make the Monday night meeting I'll give a report if anyone is interested. If anyone has tried MI support groups, I'd be interested in hearing about your experience.
I'm buzzing with some weird energy so thanks for listening.

I'm interested in how it goes. There's only one meeting in our area, and it's in a not great part of town at a weird hour one day a month. The only other thing that appears to be available is Recovery, Inc. And my nonconformist (no - really) nature rebelled at the groupspeak.
But I'll check the website you mentioned.

Dinah..
I went to one Recovery, Inc meeting and found it wasn't right for me. Frankly, I found it weird for lack of a better word. I'll let you know how this new meeting goes. It meets at a hospital so I should feel safe. : )

Phil (I know this is the social board) but what meds are you on now? And I think going to group is an excellent idea...it kinda keeps your feet planted even when you want to soar off with all sort's of ideas. Take care..

>Phil, the Symbyax is the Prozac/Zyprexa combo, right? I have had most success with Prozac, except I use Risperdal, but did do well with Zyprexa.(I imagine I would still do well with Zyprexa, it's just it costs so much for me.)
Do you think the Lamictal may be causing some of the manic symptoms? Have you been on other mood-stabalizers? I am sure you have been through all these questions before, just curious. Take care bud...Jay

I have had most success with Prozac, except I use Risperdal, but did do well with Zyprexa.(I imagine I would still do well with Zyprexa, it's just it costs so much for me.)
>>If I didn't have insurance, my meds would be around $500.00 a month. In other words-I'd be living on the street. Scares me to death.

>>Don't know but I tell you this; I got my apartment mighty clean today. Still a long ways to go, though.

No, but I've been on 30 different psych drugs in hundreds of combos. (I'm guessing on the combos but I'm sure on the meds.) I call my liver 'Old Timer'.

Maybe there's something similar in Houston.
I went to one 'depression anonymous' meeting. Very strange. The twelve steps are AA word for word except 'depression' is substited for 'alcohol' in the first one.
Not my cup of tea. 12 step programs make sense for addictions, but depression?

AM,This is their main site. Probably lots of meetings in Houston.
I wonder if anyone on Babble has been to these meetings?
Anyway, I'll fill you in on it. I think the meetings are two hours long.Phil
