Hmmm. Don't know a bloody thing about any controversy, but Spongebob strikes me as more nebbishy than gay. And I don't think his best friend Patrick the pink starfish even knows what sex is. What I think Spongebob really needs is an emergency visit from the Fab Five ("Queer Eye for the Straight Guy"). Lose the sailor suit, for Christ's sake -- the Gilligan look was NEVER in. Then maybe Spongebob could get to first base with that squirrel girl in the diving suit. But there's a lingering question of logistics here. A sponge is inherently pretty soggy and limp. All over. So how ...?

Ernie and Bert have been domestic partners on Sesame Street for years, and even C-3PO (talk about gaydar) and the phallic-shaped R2-D2, who looks like a short vibrator on wheels, have kept it together in the harsh glare of the media spotlight.
