What should I share here?

Posted by 64Bowtie on January 18, 2005, at 2:49:52

All,

I've repeatedly shared how my recovery 15 odd years ago now, has brought on, to my surprise, an essense of freedom and happinesss that was much desired, while wholly unexpected. I sense that to many folks here, I appear to be monstrous, like having 3 heads or extra arms or legs hanging out, when I mention my successful recovery.

I didn't ever need or use "meds'. My Dad did, nearly 50 years ago. I never was in therapy, although I've witnessed therapy going on, and again, my Dad did, many years ago. I was involved in crisis intervention in the early 70's where I do claim to have responsibly intervened and saved the lives of 4 attempted suicides in "real time"! This has left me wanting to do my part on behalf of teens who are prone to SI and suicide. Teen suicide is so unnecessary and wastes an un-acknowledged life.

Also, I'm not some missionary prositalizing about some mystical magical miracle experience that all MUST witness to believe. I am here humbly relating that the process that was very natural for me and others I know, took me toooo d**n long. I'm offering the process for scrutiny and suggestions as to how to make it work better, and work sooner, for y'alls or anybody.

So, what would you like me to post here at "Social"? RSVP

Rod

Rod,

I'm interested in how you deal with death. Death and dying being one of my biggest fears. I know it is a universal and unconscious fear. Have you addressed this or has it ever bothered you???

Rod, I don't think I've ever really heard your story of recovery. You've posted bits and pieces. I'd be interested-- sort of a "How it was, what I changed, how it is now" story.

I'm also interested in particular beliefs you adopted to get better. You've posted some rather long pieces on different topics. Would it be possible to summarize? Rod's top 10 healthy beliefs or something? I get lost in the long topics sometime. I need Rod's belief system for Dummies.

And as always, I admire you for being brave enough to ask for feedback.

Rod...People usually (myself included) relate to those who have shared like experiences. When you say "I have not HAD to use meds" or "been in therapy" it makes you different and somehow "above" what the rest of us "less self sufficient" folks had to do to get where we are.
You're not a monster and you are trying to help.
It just sounds sometimes like you're preaching and not sharing....It's attraction NOT promotion that works!
Hugs,
Pam

Hmmmmmmmmm... I like to share love. Usually it comes out like the sound of a braying jackass.

How 'bout you share who you are in anecdotes about you, not what you do/did so much as who you are. What's your take on things other than the subjects you've already covered?

Do you have difficulty relating socially on other topics?

Do you want Atticus to come visit you?

Got anything funny to share?

What else goes through your mind?

Ah... share your shoe size, for starters, and work up from there.

did i really say that?
share yourself and share what others have to share.

i dunno.

that's just me
