new flatmates

Posted by alexandra_k on November 18, 2004, at 1:41:10

I had to move cottages at the hostel because the one I was in needed some repairs. They try to carefully match up flatmates but mine have turned out to be a bunch of noisey pi**heads. They like to turn the music up at night and drink. I am not much of a drinker and I am verrrrrrry discrete about my drug use but the music is getting to me because I like to work at night in my room.

I feel like it is my problem, because they are all happy with it (and people even come over from the other cottages to party) but I am so over that. I don't want to stand out as being antisocial, but I really don't fit in.

But then I don't seem to fit in anywhere.

It's pretty reasonable to want some peace and quite after a certain time of night - not everyone wants to drink into the small hours every night. Do you have a warden, or any rules about noise etc?

When my housemates are being noisy and I want to work, I put on headphones and play classical music - maybe give that a try.

Good luck x

Well the ironic thing is that one of my flatmates is a residential assistant and is thus supposedly in charge of keeping the peace!

I think the trouble comes with everyone else being on holiday at the moment, and me having to work work work. On the upside it isn't too far to my office, and there is a computer lab here. I shall have a go with the earphones. Or I could simply drown them out (he with best stereo wins) :-)

Actually, maybe I was being a little harsh. We have only been together for a couple of days. I'll see how it goes...
