Posted by alesta on October 12, 2004, at 16:21:06

has anyone heard the song, i think it's called "Who wants to live forever" by queen. it is *so* unbelievably gorgeous, hauntingly beautiful, it's amazing..there's a certain purity and authenticity about this song..BUT i have to run turn this song off whenever i hear it..it's *so* depressing to me! i wish it wasn't, it's so damn beautiful. can anyone relate???

"who wants to live forever...who wants to live forever?.."

I remember watching the video not long after Freddy Mercury passed - what a waste. He was such a fantastic performer. (Guess I'm showing my advanced years, here...)

Yes, he was one those people who died of AIDS before it was politically correct to admitting to having acquired the disease. If you get a chance to rent "Live Aid", I think he's on it.

Some trivia about this song

Freddie Mercury was an outstanding performer. I was very sad when he passed away. I have most of the Queen CD's.

"Who want's to live forever" featured in the first Highlander movie about an immortal. Christopher Lambert played the lead role. (Also played Tarzan in Greystoke)

Now - my forté!! This song was re-created and sung by Sarah Brightman on her Timeless (US version) or Time to Say Goodbye CD. She sings it at each concert. (She has just finished performing the Harem tour in Canada). If you want haunting beauty - this is it.

It is one of my favourite pieces by Sarah and one that I sing very well myself.

(I'm a self taught, amateur classical / light opera singer and sing all Sarah's material. I'm besotted with her and her work).

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon

The first time anyone refers to a book, movie, or music without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she at least knows about it. It's just an option, though, and doesn't *have* to be used. If people *choose* not to use it, I'd be interested why not, but I'd like that redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration:

Thanks!

hi, s!

yes, i love sarah brightman, too. beautiful voice. but it was something more than the beauty of freddy's voice..it was his genuineness with which he sang it..and perhaps the fact that his group wrote the song so it was more from their heart..

you sing, aye? :) me, too! no vocal training, but i can do some mean karaoke.;) i'd like to take some lessons, though. i also am a violinist. the instrument came very naturally to me. i haven't played as of late due to repetitive stress injuries, and it makes me sad. jeez, if something goes right in my life i'll die of shock!

perhaps we should start a pb singing group! :)

glad to have another music lover in the house!

take care,
amy :-)
