Depression feels like the flu???

Posted by jay on August 18, 2004, at 12:57:53

Anyone ever get this? My throat feels raw...sinuses all blocked up. It feels like stress has turned and twisted my immune system inside out. What should I do....go get some antibiotics??? I think I have an infection, as my phlegm(sp?) is all colours (sorry...don't mean to be gross..). Achhh...

sounds like you're sure sick! and mental illness can manifest itself in physical ways-- your immune system gets just as worn out fighting stress as your brain does. probably because th ey're related.

i hope you feel better soon :/

Well, I think it sounds as though you have a physical illness, perhaps in addition to or even caused by your depression. I used to feel flu-like when really depressed at times, but the phlegm was always normal. The parts that were flu-like were the extreme lack of energy, feeling nauseus, sleeping all day. I don't think I ever actually had a depression-relatd sore throat, though.

Yikes, sounds awful. Take good care of yourself, Jay. I hope you're feeling better in lots of ways soon.

I agree with everyone else. Sounds like a sinus-infection. Drink lots of hot tea to help calm the swelling and go see a doc. If it is the flu, antibio's won't help but if it is sinus stuff they will. When you tip your head forward, is there pressure?

Aspirin will help tons too. I think it has been said, but stress really compromises the immune system so you are likely to catch things.
Just what you needed, right?
