i worked last night. at mcdonalds. with boys. youngins. cutins. one called me little girl (he's younger than i am) and i liked it. another ordered me down to the basement while i was making whoppers or big macs or whatever we make and i was so confused i was running in circles for a few minutes and actually asked my boss if i could go downstairs. my boss said fine. oh, he has the most beautiful eyes. he had me until i got downstairs and he said 'are you going to show me your boobs?' i laughed and went upstairs to continue making whoppers or big macs or whatever we make at the establishment.
i'm older than my coworkers. i'm older than my managers. i ask everyone how old they are. everytime i ask someone their age, i remark, 'i'm older than you!!!!' finally, someone said 'karen!!!! you are older than EVERYONE here!!!!' i asked my boss (after he told me his age, which is younger than me) if he liked older women. he laughed. i didn't.
another boss tonight asked me if i was in the mood for exercise today. i was excited. he then told me to clean the lot. i was still excited. i was cleaning the parking lot with a cigarette hanging out of my mouth (this is for you spoc!!!) and LOW AND BEHOLD from heaven it must have fallen, a pill was in a mud puddle!!! hel* yes, i pulled it out. i picked it up, wiped it off, inspected it, and guess what it was????
tylenol pm

Wow kk, you are truly an inspiration! To get that much fun out of a job a Mickey D's! I wish I had just a smidge of your zest for life. I'm working on it though! I'm glad you're having so much fun.

Karen Kay,
hi! It's JenStar! I'm glad you're having so much fun, but I was REALLY seriously concerned about the line below:"he had me until i got downstairs and he said 'are you going to show me your boobs?' "
That is sexual harrassment. It is completely inappropriate. This manager needs to be reported to the district, and fired. Implicit in his statement are many bad things: First, he is not professional; second, he cannot be capable of role-modeling and enforcing correct professional behavior amongst the workers if he himself does not practice it; and third, there are problems just waiting to arise.
I know it sounds like "all in good fun" but it's degrading and you should NOT have to take that!
I know I'm lecturing, and I promised myself I was not going to do that here on Babble because it angers people...but I just can't help it!
Please....don't continue to work in this place. And it really is your responsibility to make sure this behavior is stopped. You and the other workers (past, present and future) deserve so much better. You deserve a place that is harrassment-free. Please consider reporting this man's behavior.
I care for you! Please don't let this person and this job take advantage of your heart and your kind soul.

hi Karen Kay,
JenLecturerStar here again! I wanted to point out that what the manager did is not only offensive but also illegal. Sexual harrssment is against the law. Things like rude comments "count" -- sexual harrassment is not just physical abuse. What makes it especially bad is a pattern of continual comments, or an environment that perpetually allows this kind of comment and behavior to go on. When that happens, the law says that you are experiencing a 'hostile work environment'.Please check out a few websites and talk to your boss' boss about this. I care about you and your long-term future at this company.
OK. No more lectures. Just wanted to say that I care!

I have to say I was a little concerned also. But since I didn't know the whole context, I was hoping there was a little more to it. Sexual harrassment is a fine line, I know I may have crossed it making jokes and what not. But at the time I felt comfortable with the company I was in, so I didn't worry about it. It really depends on the situation. But if you do feel it was out of line, definetely take action. You know we're all routing for you kk!

first of all... this wasn't my supervisor. this was a fellow employee. second of all, in all honesty, i'm sure i said something along the ines of 'wanna go down to the basement' several times before he finally said 'little girl get down in the basement'... stop lecturing, ok, kk isn't all that innocent... (oh no, that sounds like a song title, doens't it? wait, i'm not a girl, not yet a woman... oops, i did it again... ok, i'm going to get some sleep now and that's all her songs i know, i think.. yeah, i'm sure that's all i know.)
thank you for being concerned, i appreciate it. but, there was a manager in the corner watching too. did i mention that? oh dear, this is actually sounding worse. no danger. just fun.

Well, if it helps, I didn't see it as harassment. I believe the definition includes the words "unwanted" and "persistent" in it.
Sounded to me like great fun. And the really good thing about working with kids is ..... it's so easy to yank their chains.

hi KK,
I hear you when you said there was no danger involved. I know it's fun too.But speaking as a manager (sorry, I have the manager hat on again...I promise this is the last post I'll make on this!) I have to point out that just because SOME employees find it fun to joke this way doesn't mean that ALL employees find it fun.
There may be one or two people really uncomfortable even if those people are not you & the guy involved; people who overheard it, etc. Those people could eventually be mad at YOU for perpetuating the environment that to THEM is becoming 'hostile.'
Second, I would be very concerned that the manager overheard & allowed it to go on without some kind of comment or follow-up. I think that the definition of "all in good fun" at work should just not include sexual jokes & references. It usually leads to trouble and hurt feelings somewhere down the road.
I may sound like a "stick in the mud" but I've always been a huge stickler for professional and corteous conduct.
Anyway, I guess I'd just ask you to be sure you're truly comfortable with this kind of behavior and treatment. If you're not, don't be afraid to speak up. Just because you joked about it once doesn't mean you have to continue to do it if you feel weird about it in the future.
I'm glad you're enjoying the job and I PROMISE I won't bug you about this again. It's just a total hot button for me and I couldn't resist. Sorry! Good luck to you.
