i've been back on celexa 40mg and wellbutrin XL 300mg for 2 weeks now and i've had definite ups and downs. right now, the depression, anxiety & OCD are all battling with me. sometimes i feel better in the evening, sometimes i don't. i wasn't having problems sleeping, but now i am. will this all go away once the meds start doing their job?

This will probably get redirected to meds, but.....
In My Opinion (for what it is worth) and from my experience, if there is NO improvement after a couple of weeks it's worth a call to the doctor. Usually some degree of improvement is noticed by now.

Tampagirl,
On many meds, up to six weeks may be required for full effect, and for side effects to calm down. If you are having trouble getting to sleep though, you might want to get in touch with the dr. who prescribed the meds. Lack of sleep can make many problems worse.
Hope this helps.
Dee.

i had my pdoc call in a sleeping aid for me and it worked wonders. i know it usually takes 3-6 weeks before you feel any better, but i just feel like i'm on a roller coaster. week one was obsessing, but livable. week 2 was depression & obsessing, barely livable. week 3 has been major anxiety, depression and obsessing, along with worrying about not being able to get to sleep at night. i have moments of clarity, but they're fleeting. i'm not eating much, usually just a pb&j sandwich at night. its been 6 years since i've dealt with this and i don't remember how long it took for me to feel like "me" again.
thanks for your input, i appreciate it.

i was only off the wellbutrin for a month and the celexa for 2 weeks, but i know that i wasn't taking enough celexa for quite a while before i went off of it. does it make a difference in how quickly it works if you've been on it before and restart it?

It's different for everyone. Sometimes when you go off a med and re-start, they behave differently. Some may work very quickly, some may take longer, some may require a different dosage.
I think that psychiatry is alot like alchemy. No-one knows how it works, but the ones who practice it and are good at it are amazing.
All that I can say is to trust your p-doc. They're the ones with the experience and training. Sometimes just knowing that it will get better can help it get better.
Good luck,
Dee.
