Dr Bob tucked this qietly away on Admin, but its PB's birthday today!!! *G*
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20040527/msgs/355288.html
By my working out, PB is now 6 years old! WOW!
We have our problems, our ups and downs, but all in all, I think this is something that Dr Bob should be very proud of.
I know I am very very thankful for this place, and the friendships that I have got from it.
So, in honour of its anniversary.. how about we all list one thing we LOVE about PB..

Hmmm, eating a bowl of jelly... or wait, maybe you mean jelly ON the ice cream? Yeah, I guess I can see it, it's good in banana splits! I usually think of hot fudge or chocolate syrup first, but I'm a sweets-monster in general so I won't be picky! Pass it on over! ;- )

I love how Babble allows me to feel a sense of community that my illness hadn't made possible before.

Jelly is what we call Jello.
If I recall, 'jelly and ice cream' is a bowl of jello with ice cream on top.
It's a wonderful comfort food.

Sorry for all the confusion!! *l*
So, no jam on the ice cream, honest (and I can throw some jelly beans on there too!!)
I love the people and the friendships. I adore that Dr Bob gave me the opportunity to make these friends and receive the support I have over the years.
I just love Babble!!

> Sorry for all the confusion!! *l*<<<<<< Thanks Nikki and Mel, for another culturally enlightening experience! Now, jam-type jelly I could see due to the banana split connection. But Jello with ice cream, hmmmm.... Not as alarming as vegemite and whatever-mite (the UK equivalent, can't recall), but still rather curious. In principle sounds to me a bit like using rice cakes for the bun of a juicy cheeseburger. If you're gonna have a sweet indulgence, why not just go ahead and make it a sugar coma? With cake, shortbread, cookies or hot fudge in there instead!?
Ha ha, just kidding, no sweet gets snubbed by me. I'm an equal-opportunity eater. And I admit it does sound like an interesting experiment in combining textures! I can even taste it and picture it already, which is actually kind of sad. ;- )
Oh, P.S. -- yes thank you and happy PBirthday Dr. Bob, it is a gem of a site in many regards!

June 10th 1998?
It looks like a full moon baby....sun in Gemini moon in Sagittarius.
The key phrase for Gemini is "I think".
Born under the sign of the twins Gemini is ruled by Mercury the winged god of communication...he has wings on this heels. Geminis are the nonconformists of the Zodiac. They dislike being bound to any particular person or place.HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY.....MY SWEET TWINS!
I am forever grateful for this site and all the babblers on it. This is a lovely community of very interesting and exciting people.
"Never a dull moment" as my father often said about my Gemini mother.

I would love to celebrate your beginnings....your day of emergence.
I am so happy you are alive and that you were inspired to do this project.
I know there are so many stuggles and there is so much learing.
I too am growing and changing from what I do.
I celebrate your ability to keep this up for all the wonderful people you have gathered here.
I am very fond of them and you.
thank you

Happy Birthday!!!
Well, there are so many things I love about Babble, but they all boil down to one thing - the people. Without Dr. Bob and all the Babblers the site would be nothing and without Babble I wouldn't feel as supported and cared for as I do, have as much fun as I do, have as many opportunities to offer my support to others, and I wouldn't have made the beautiful friends I have made in my short time here.
Umm...does that still count as one thing?
Thank you for Babble, Dr. Bob and many more Happy Birthdays to come!

It's marmite, and it's wonderful.
Think of jello with ice cream is the pumped-up-with-sugar equivalent to jello with whipped cream.
Which I didn't think strange at all. What I thought was strange was the UK version of a Crunch bar. Instead of puffed rice it has corn flakes.

> Think of jello with ice cream is the pumped-up-with-sugar equivalent to jello with whipped cream.
<<<<<< Oh ok, that does make more sense, but funny that to me, whipped cream seems sweeter than Jello. (The sweeter the thing it's combined/eaten with, the blander Jello seems to me. It's never satisfied my sweet tooth at all actually, and to me it's a waste of time, but an entire planet can't be wrong I guess.)
And as whipped cream is so much lighter and airier, I can see it behaving better on top of Jello, but maybe the misbehavior is half the fun. The Jello-ice cream combination presents an interesting study in contrasting textures, weights, viscosity, bouyancy and opportunity to chase things around the bowl. Gee, I should work in advertising huh? Yum yum, when do we eat? I'm being spoc-with-a-K today, finding this most illogical (tongue-in-cheek of course).
> ...Which I didn't think strange at all. What I thought was strange was the UK version of a Crunch bar. Instead of puffed rice it has corn flakes.
<<<<< Now, to me that doesn't seem strange because any sweet or neutral crunchy baked good combined with chocolate or the like appeals to me. As a kid, I used to make "Rice Krispy" treats with any cereal we had on hand, so I guess I acclimated myself.
In the final analysis (and analysis was *really* important here :), I am quite an un-picky eater and all of the above would surely make my cut just fine. Well, I do find some things too pungent or to have origins too creepy to bother trying. But I'm not one of those types who are grossed out by arbitrary things like raisins. You know the type, always rolling things around on their plates and picking stuff out. (Ok ok, I know that used here, "arbitrary" is arbitrary.)
Sweets are rarely one of the things open to interpretation as being actually gross, just..."too sweet" or unhealthy for some tastes. Now, if ya wanna talk organ meats and things that bring to mind something rotten or not unlike some bodily secretion, we may have a debate on our hands! ;- )

We have the jelly and ice cream next to each other, not one balanced on top fo the other.. when I was a kid the jelly was normally made (oh the 70's were a great time) in a rabbit shaped mold *laughing* Normally the rabbit would be red, or orange, on lime flavoured jelly grass!!
Also, here, jelly comes in cubes.. you get a pack of it, rectangular, I guess 5" by 3" or so.. its like really firm jelly. You then cut it into the cubes its shaped in, and then put on hot water (and add vodka now I'm grown up *l*), put it in a mold to set!!
I have made totally home made jelly before.. one with champagne that was wonderful! I just love the texture of it!!

<<<<< Oh, I think I know the type, that IS better. I don't even know if it comes pre-packaged that way here, but it sounds like a variant we make ourselves called "Knox Blox/blocks." You add a plain unsweetened/unflavored gelatin cooking powder in the recipe to make Jello. I think "Knox" is the brand of one.
Ya know what I really like is Jello cake -- where you pour the hot liquid Jello over cake and it mixes in and adds the most delightful texture and flavor! Nice and moist and springy.
> I have made totally home made jelly before.. one with champagne that was wonderful! I just love the texture of it!!
<<<< Yum, I wouldn't have known it would set with champagne in it! I may have to try that, although showing up at pot-lucks here with anything Jello-based opens you up to a lot of ribbing, tasty or not. Making fun of Jello is a national tradition. At holidays my poor mom is forever presenting a new Jello dish, even though some will refuse to even try it. I don't know why she plugs aways at Jello recipes under those circumstances, she does HATE to cook so you'd think she'd play it safe. But *I* always try them, especially if they have some creamy ingredient that makes the "boing-iness" less bland.
Have you ever tried champagne and sherbet/sorbet? That makes a punch. Pour not-too-expensive champagne into a punch bowl, then drop in sherbet and let it melt. I think you use something like two or three parts champagne to one part sherbet. Gets nice and frothy and fruity!

What I love most about Babble is that it has never failed to make me feel better and it doesn't make me wait to feel better either. And its free...
