Guys and shaving while depressed..

Posted by jay on April 12, 2004, at 1:10:31

Any guys out there notice that it is hard as *hell* to shave while depressed? It feels painful....even with a good razor. I have a hard time because I have a heavy dark beard (no I *don't* have a beard....but the hairs where my beard would be are heavy and dark.). The burning feeling of the hard razor on the skin...over and over...and over. Plus, I hate going out unshaven...it adds to the social anxiety..thinking everybody thinks "eeewww..". Late at night it doesn't matter, but during the day it just makes me feel completely horrible going outside looking like that.

Plus, like I said, it is *so* hard to get yourself motivated to shave while depressed, it's just a whole bad vicious cycle. Girls can get away without makeup, or their hair done up...it's not fair, dang it...boohooo. :-/.

Jay (waiting for vicious replies from women..heh.)

and about that comment you made (women can get away without makeup.... hmmmmmm, you really think so? not if we want to catch the eye of a rugged man we can't.)

I must admit, Jay, I’m not a fan of the beard myself. I think it makes me look fat.

Seriously, though, I like facial hair on a man, but I do lean toward goatees (did I spell that right?). This takes more effort than not shaving, though, so I don’t imagine this line of thinking is helping you at all.

How about going to get a shave? Maybe a little indulgent, but perhaps that’s just what you need to lift your spirits a little when you’re depressed. My husband’s had facials before (he’s a bit girlie, though :)). Maybe this would help with the sensitivity.

My last suggestion - moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

Now, about that thing of girls getting away without makeup…do you think beauty comes naturally to women like me, KK, and jlynne? Well, okay, it does. Never mind, then. ;)
