I'm all psyched. I used to belong to a gym that was only 5 minutes away from my house. Actually, my ex and I belonged, and at first it was a lot of fun to go work out together. But then he started having issues with my weight and it would become this huge fight to go to the gym.
He would never listen to me when I told him it was my eating habits doing me damage, not lack of exercise. Heck, I *always* was more active than he ever was...but the weight issue would keep coming up and he'd keep suggesting we go to the gym.
And it just became a *thing,* you know? So I had bad associations with that gym.
Sooooo, I've found a new gym, about 10 minutes away, with no ex in sight. Very, very psyched about this.... :-)

That's great, Susan! My husband really benefits from going to the gym. You can tell he's happier and more easy going when he goes a couple of times a week.
Hope you enjoy it.
P.S. I'm glad that's your *ex*.

Thanks, Dinah,

<<I feel a lot better, too, when I exercise regularly. I actually like going to the gym, just didn't like it on Paul's (ex's) terms..> P.S. I'm glad that's your *ex*.
<<Yah. You and me both. His new girlfriend has gained some weight, too, since they started dating and he was telling me about her *cottage cheese thighs.* I mean, he seemed really grossed out by her. I read him the riot act. I mean, you just don't get grossed out by someone you really care about....more attracted/less attracted? Sure.... Disgusted? No way....

Susan,
Good for you!
Does the gym offer kick boxing classes? I think it would be easy to imagine you're kicking and punching at your ex (hee, hee.)
I manage to drag my sorry butt to water aerobics twice a week. The current session ends this week and won't start up again until the end of January, so I will have to blow the dust off the exercise bike in the basement.

Poet,
I used to *love* kickboxing classes, and really tried to imagine my previous ex's head when I kicked. It helped that he was shorter than me. :-)
Yeah, this gym has kickboxing, yoga, spinning. Nice part is these classes don't cost extra. Don't know about other places, but there's a disturbing trend here where you pay ungodly monthly dues and pay $10 a class on top of that for specialty classes.

Good luck Susan. I hope you can erase the bad memory and start a new phase of exercising. It's so hard to do things for yourself when someone is prodding, isn't it? For me that's just sure to awaken my inner adolescent and start an unproductive power struggle.
