Here's some history - have been on effexor close to 8 years. Also numerous meds for anxiety.
I have recently weaned off 300mg effexor 5 weeks now and am on just a small dose of zoloft 50mg.
Started fish oil last week. I am feeling fairly good but still slightly anxious.
Went to see a new psydoc yesterday. He thinks I should be taking klonapin everyday and upping my zoloft to at least 100 maybe 200mg. Why - because I have had relapses of depression in the past and he said I should be keeping myself stable because I could get a permanently depressed brain and I will ruin my life. This sounded extreme to me. I'm confused because I am feeling fairly good- why should I up my meds, why not wait and see if the fish oil works?
I would also like to get pregnant in the next year this is another reason for wanting to decrease my meds.
I left his office feeling very frustrated and unsure of what to do.
He also feels zanax or klonapin is not addictive -I am a recovered alcoholic, I do not know if it's such a good idea for me to stay on a drug like this.
I have never has one psydoc that I have liked.

Hi. Since your post was mostly medication related, I redirected it to the medication board for you. I would hate to have it get overlooked here on Psycho-Social Babble.
Here's a link

And sorry it's so confusing.
If you want to complain about your doctor though, here or Psychological Babble (if he does therapy too) is a great place. I'm sure you'll have lots of company. :)
