yesac,

Who not what is IsoM? Hee hee.

IsoM is a very dear poster who is cat savvy and much missed around these here parts.

I was just putting a holler out should IsoM be lurking. My hope is that the summer has been a busy one for IsoM.

Oh... lol... I just thought it was another of those IMHO (which took me a while to figure out) sort of things! Now that I think about it, I do recall seeing the name here and there.

My pussy is a very fussy eater.

Doesn't even like expensive food.
Only eats a little--isn't skinny-but close to it.
Don't give in to the cute meows--mine likes tuna also but stopped it and resorted back to catfood.
Last night she caught a bird..they tease and play for ages--cruel nature.
She now lives outside which is good cause she's got fleas

Either "mule" or "donkey" would've been fine...

Fine, but incorrect. Please see:

http://www.greenapple.com/~jorp/amzanim/donkterm.htm

You will find that *** (the 3-letter word you find offensive) is THE CORRECT term for donkey, burro, etc. So for Gabbi to use Donkey as a substitute would force her to use an incorrect term for what she meant.

'nuff said.

Hi, guys.

I was reading through this thread and saw the "semantic" turn it took.

Yeah, a** is probably a correct term to describe stubborness. I don't think anyone would dispute you on this. I just think that the use of the word a** has become more like vulgar slang and really could offend someone.

Please don't take offense at Dr. Bob's post. You probably didn't -- but the tone of your e-mail suggests you might have. I'm sure it was just a gentle reminder.

We can be technically correct and polite at the same time.

I don't really think its semantics though
the correct term for donkey is an**
using a correct term is hardly uncivil.

It seems silly to have to use an incorrect term
because the sound of an a** may offend someone.
especially when its been used before on the board
to describe a donkey.
actually this month and not been given a P.B.C.

And I was actually not trying to be nasty toward
Dr. Bob, it was meant as a gentle Ribbing..

Its not *that* important to me though

Dr Bob, I think it should be pretty clear, that I don't like hurting people's feelings or offending them, I've apologized more than a few times, when I've thought I've been off the cuff or sounded harsh, and Overall I try to be positive and encouraging.

It all depends on what you consider offensive,
having to twist the english language in case it may upset someone, which I find offensive.
The arbitrary nature of the P.B.C as the term a** has been used for donkey on this board before without a p.b.c
or the term A** period. And really this has gone on way longer than I'd intended, I was kidding

I'm sorry. And now I'm offended! Because this was not intended to be a big deal.

And of course I'm about to be redirected

I give up.

at all, its kind of hard to tell when someone's typing, whats a dig and whats just kidding,
and if I had been offended, your apology would have fixed it. I'm forever jumping in where I shouldn't and apologizing afterward :(

Well, if someone doesn't like to offend others, but at the same time doesn't like twisting the language so they don't offend others, I'm not sure where that leaves them...

> The arbitrary nature of the P.B.C as the term a** has been used for donkey on this board before without a p.b.c

I know it may be a change, sorry about that, but the main idea is to be *less* arbitrary. Since now I'm just going by what Merriam-Webster OnLine says:

http://m-w.com

> this was not intended to be a big deal.

Sorry if I made it into a big deal. I was just trying to explain.

I thought what you said about offending others not being 'silly' was gratuitous.
And yes, it *really* was hurtful I'm not getting on a soapbox.
It was hurtful Because I try not to offend, and I think the fact that I don't think offending others is silly should be quite apparent.
I don't know why you felt you had to point that out to me
after I had already said,
'Its okay, I'll just use stubborn its not that big a deal"

And somehow it seemed okay to make me feel very put down, to somehow defend others who may be offended by the term that is *not* donkey.

Reactionary? perhaps. But I think I'm probably not so different from any other babbler in that I'm on disability, my prescriptions were not filled properly again! I'm out of food, and have now had macaroni for 3 meals 3 days in a row.
A pipe in my apt exploded, but I need not bother the manager cause its a welfare apt, and nobody cares that my apartment smells like a sewer.
I'm dealing with a mental illness and shoddy medical treatment as best I can while trying to stay somewhat positive.

And I tune in to find myself being nitpicked for using the term *ss instead of donkey after I've already voluntarily said I won't do it AGAIN!!

I'm afraid it just brought out the devil in me
