I have been to the yahoo chatrooms this week just for fun but they are always mean to me. Is it me or is it just the way chatrooms are? If they are just like that, I'll steer clear from now on.
Jeez, they really get nasty and I don't do anything to deserve it.
sheesh
I don't need my self esteem beat up right now.

I've generally found that Yahoo! chats are pretty unfriendly... I spend a lot of my time in the chatroom "Health Mental 1" on AOL. There are a lot of regs that go to that room, and 90% of the day in there it's absolutely wonderful and very supportive. I've made a lot of great friends in that room over the past year and continue to drop in that chat at least four times a week.

In my experience they've always been weird and mean. They really gave me the creeps and I've never been back. I suppose over a period of time if one had enough self esteem to sacrifice you might be able to find some that are okay.

I dunno. I met my best friends in PB Open. Or maybe I met them here and cemented the friendship in PB Open. :) Maybe Dr. Bob's civility influences hover over that chat room.
We ought to try to re-start the whoel PB Open thing. It just got so frustrated to be booted all the time. Yahoo!!!!

I use IRC a lot, and a few weeks ago I posted on the Admin board that I would be willing to set up and help to run a new channel on IRC just for PB regulars to use, if anyone was interested.
Nobody seemed interested!
The advantage of IRC over other chat formats is that it can have moderators; the channel can be kept private so that only people who know about it, know it is there; and it can also be made so that only "voiced" people can type to channel - meaning, only "approved" people or genuine PB members - no fly-bys or troublemakers.
I have an old and cranky computer which simply does not handle Yahoo chat (or any browser-based chat) very well - and I also know of people (connected to my hobby) who got so fed up with the continual boot-offs that they left Yahoo chat and went elsewhere.
There's an IRC network I am familiar with that is family-friendly and doesn't allow sex channels, which might be a good choice to host a channel specially for us :)

Tina,
There's few rules in un-monitored chatrooms like Yahoo, etc. Even AOL, if you want to go thru the hassle of emailing a complaint in, or trying to find a Guide (if they still have them). And on IRC, I had an angry young man tell me how he wanted to shove a gun barrel in my mouth and shoot (real gun, not a sexual reference). I have a vivid imagination so that upset me tremendously. Here, at Dr.Bob's, there are simple rules. Break those rules and you can be post-banned. I like that kind of safety, though it's limited.
Don't take anything personally, here or anywhere online. :)
