I agreed to be lighthearted.
I sat in one of those offices we knew so well last monday and I counted my suicides. It makes me sad that I cannot remember some of their names now. I always remembered you. That last day you went out the door and then turned back again and said goodbye. You were my last suicide you know. It took a while but I left that world although I never really made it into any other.I fell in love a little but I got scared. I got my degree. I got my dog!! I never got my Christmas tree YET but anyway I agreed that I would go on and try to be lighthearted.
But then on the news I saw the pictures of soldiers touching the dogtags hanging from the rifle in front of the boots of a fallen comrade and I remembered your shoes. I picked your name back out of the trash when they peeled the label off your chart and I touched your shoes on the top of the stack of your clothes whenever I walked by for a long time. And it was a long long time. It took weeks to recover your body. Who would have come to collect your clothes?
So I had agreed to be lighthearted but then I remembered your shoes and I turned back one more time to say if you were a plant you would be a tree and if you were music you'd be jazz and if I could say three things to you I'd say I hope you weren't terrified while you were falling and that everything will be ok and you did the best you could.

Yeah. We are all doing the best we can. Without hope, there is nothing.
Wish for peace.

Those of course were 3 different thoughts although I hate to lose my arty ***** artistic ambiguity ;) I think people DO do the best they can. I know this person did. Please don't read too much into it. It was personal.
