Got some stuff done today

Posted by noa on March 9, 2003, at 20:37:46

Weather was good, and I did some cleaning, laundry, throwing away the trash and recycling, etc. Just a "dent", of course. And, don't ya know it had gotten much worse since the last dent I made. But I feel good about it. All my clothes are hung up or sorted into more laundry piles. Washer still broken, so went to common laundry, which involves going for a little walk, so that got me out and into the nice weather. Same with recycling trips--to drop off stuff in the bins.

Chatted with some neighbors along the way, and their dogs.

It's a start.

Good for you Noa. I mostly sat on my butt and did not leave the house. I cooked dinner at least and returned a phone call.

Sounds like a nice start! Thank heavens for my husband or my house would be a total wreck.

And I got work done today and yesterday after a week of being pretty much knocked on my rear from the last deadline.

A productive day feels good when it's over. Now for some sleep.

Dear Noa,

Praise yourself mightily for even one step and it sounds like you took several!!!

You've been so inspirational to me, so take a sip of my (from you) glass of inspiration.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

You know about the battle of my office - things were so bad....
--if I could get it all done in one day
--if I could stop the demands of life
--if a dozen worker bees showed up
.... none of the above happened. I just kept thinking of you, and kept slogging through, one victory at a time. You can do it!!

Coral

I managed to clear a path to bed and bathroom.. but that was just by piling stuff even higher in front of the wardrobes.. grrrr!!!

You did great :o)

I wonder how much of the problem is a very real lack of storage space. In my non-public rooms, storage containers of one sort or another make up part of my decor. Hey! Come to think of it, my public areas are decorated in box after box of pirate stuff, and train stuff, and a big lego table. My whole house is decorated with storage boxes. It may not look great (and I'm sure those with flair could do it more stylishly than I do) but everything is more or less organized and in its place. And I am *not* an organized person by nature.

(Nikki's piles reminded me. That's what my house looked like before I found storage boxes that could fit under beds and sofas. And furniture that doubled as storage.)

Good for you! Yes, it was a beautiful day, wasn't it? I think the desire for spring cleaning and getting things done came early around these parts. It was a nice day for sprucing up, and I THOUGHT about it! (Actually, I got much done too.)

It's cold today, but it's pretty. Maybe you and I can keep our motivation up?

Now if only I can get away from the darned computer.

Thanks everyone! I feel like I have my own personal cheering squad. Let's hope I don't lose the momentum too quickly.

Nikki, the path image made me laugh cuz that is how it has been here.

Dinah--storage is an issue, but I haven't figured out yet how to solve it. I think I have enough closet space altogether in this apt. but not laid out the way I need it. Also, the bedroom closet is deep--two layers of hanging clothes--but rather narrow--ie, poor access. That makes it doubly hard to hang things back up again! I was thinking yesterday, that someday, when I have some $ to renovate a bit, I will knock down part of the wall, to gain access to the closet from the smaller bedroom, then knock down the wall between the two closets, to combine for a big deep and WIDE closet.

In the shorter term, I need to buy another dresser or something. But even that is money needed elsewhere first, like for replacing the heating/cooling system that's on its last legs, or to buy a sofa so there is somewhere to sit in my livingroom. Money needed elsewhere and I haven't even met it yet!

Oh well. Another thing I could do is go through my stuff and throw away some of the junk, like all the "grungewear" I wear around the house and to sleep in, that is stained, torn, etc. See? If I start spending less time in my reclusive mode, I will need less grungewear. And, if I get my washing maching fixed, laundry won't be such a big deal, so I won't need like a year's supply of socks and undies (I do have a lot of those because of how much I hated doing laundry when I didn't have my own machine).

And yes, Dinah, I should just get some cheap storage bins in the meantime. And now that I can see some sense of structure in the bedroom, this is a good time to do that. Before, it was just too overwhelming.

So, thanks, all: Tabitha, Dinah, Coral (my inspiration), Nikki, Beardy, Tina!

Hey, Tabitha--that is like most of my weekend days, except without the returned phone call or the cooking dinner!

I was totally serious about the storage, Noa. Our sofa is the sort that has space underneath, and we've got boxes of toys my son can (or is supposed to) slide out to play with and slide back when finished. Ditto on end tables, day beds, beds, etc. Nothing expensive. Thank heavens for comforters and tablecloths. :)

We throw stuff out regularly too, but we're a family that imbues inanimate objects with meaning. "Oh, you can't throw out that. Mom gave it to me. Oh no, not that. It's the Burger King toy from the day we went to the zoo!!! Oh, I was wearing that outfit the day he sat up for the first time. That can't go! Oh. Not that calendar. March has a gorgeous picture of a waterfall - I feel so peaceful when I see it (of course it's in the closet so I never see it)."

No. Waaaaahhhhhh!!! Sniff, sniff. And we got a call today wanting to set up a meeting to discuss why the last one was late. Geesh. Set up a meeting to get yelled at. And boss wanted to know why things are always done at the last minute. So I told him. In excrutiating detail, with only a few tears. He ended up patting my on my back, telling me there, there, it wasn't that terrible. As my husband says, it's darn good that I'm good at what I do. :(

"Weather was good,"

That really struck me, I know you use a light box (as did I when I lived in the midwest), but I didn't notice a radical change until I moved to So.California. Yes it's horribly expensive and crowded, etc. but the effect on my seasonal depression has been miraculous. So short of moving to the desert, can you lengthen your light box time? try to get away more in the winter? just rambling, but I'm very happy for you that things look more positive. take care, judy

Judy, something to consider--moving to sunnier climes. But really, I have not gotten enough of my light box treatment this winter. One bulb broke, and I never got around to replacing it, and my routing was not as regular for getting light box time. I'll work on that before the next waning of the light season rolls around. For now, I'm trying to get as much of the real thing as I can.
