Have you tried Zyprexa?
My pdoc prescribed it, two days ago. The average dose is 5-10 mgs, its mostly used as an antipsychotic. He said some people find it good for anxiety and he's pretty well run out of options for me, for the anxiety... and that is a lot of options.
Anyway he prescribed 2.5 mgs
but I only took 1/2 of that, and it worked beautifully, absolutely beautifully. I can't quite believe it as he didn't really seem sure how it would work.It has a terrible weight gain side effect though.
Its almost guaranteed at the regular doses. However I did some research and it said that most people who are at 2.5 or under don't have the weight side effect, so my fingers are crossed.I've heard that Geodon is supposed to be similar but without the weight gain problem, we don't have it in Canada yet though.

Don't you worry Jyl, you can post by my name any time you want.
How are you doing?
You've been on the same medication treadmill I have been.
I'm on wellbutrin, as well as a thyroid replacement Cytomel.
My worst problem is intense anxiety. I take ativan, but won't take more than 2mgs per day, and when I'm having a bad cycle it does nothing. My pdoc recommended Zyprexa, its actually for Psychosis, but in small doses it can work for anxiety.
for me it worked even better than benzo's, and apparently on some it does have an anti-depressant affect and is known as being a good mood stabilizers.
It made me feel like I was wrapped in a warm fuzzy blanket..very comforting.
My problem in the past with mood stabilizers such as Topomax, was that they stabilized my mood,
at "depressed" I couldn't tolerate that.
so far I haven't had the problem with zyprexa
But its early yet.Are you an anxious type?

No, I haven't tried Zyprexa Gabbi. I think the Epival with the FXR will do the trick though. I'm feeling better already. I have this annoying twitch in the muscles under my right eye that won't go away but other than that, I'm feeling pretty damned good today.
Have you got a tonne of snow up there? It's really loaded down our way.
I hope the zyprexa helps you Gabbi. I know a couple of other people it has helped so best of luck to you.

Hi ya jyl(s)
How's the snow out your way?
I'm a self-injurer too (I'm hoping that's what you meant when you typed si) I haven't done it in a while though which is good I think. The FXR is starting to feel kinda good actually. I've managed to sleep all the way through the past two nights YAY!! I think the epival will take care of the anxiety to a large extent so I'm feeling pretty hopeful right now. Of course, that could change like the weather but for now, I'm trying to enjoy it. :)
I hope you're being good to yourself S
how's your hair? Did you change it yet or are you staying with the colour?
hugs

Tina:
I had an eye twitch for three solid months. It was not related to meds. (Yes, it was the muscle below my eye, but it moved around and included my eyelid eventually.)
I get them all the time from stress, lack of sleep, or sinus troubles. In fact, the eye twitch went away after two days of antibiotics to treat a sinus infection. Whenever I get it, I do some days of flonase, and it goes away.
I just wanted to say that there's a good chance it's not the meds. Sometimes facial twitches just happen from stress, and you've been under a lot of it lately.
You sound better, though, so hang in there!

thanks beardy.
I think it might be eye strain or tiredness. I do have a cold right now but it's mostly in my chest and throat. The eye twitch is annoying but nothing I can't handle as long as it goes away eventually. It's the little things that drive me slowly round the bend. :^)

I still get those triggers too s but it's alot easier to direct my thoughts away from them now. I haven't had any of my anger outbursts since starting the effexor and I'm a hitter. When I get angry, I put my fist through walls and I haven't been angry so my walls are very thankful.
I understand the boxcutter but....the duct tape? How do you self injure with that?

Hi gabbi and all. I tried zyprexa and, uuummm, you might not like this and doc said it was a "bit" rare that I gained 20+ pounds (can't convert that to liters at the momment...lol) in less then a month. I gained about 3 inces in that month (again, canidian conversion probs).
I was mostly only taking it for sleep and a little for for my worrying about sleeping =:). I am kinda lucky in that I am pretty active and shed the wieght quikly, but if that's big deal with you, keep an eye on it. Oh, I was taking 2.5 every night or 5 on a bad one.
full steam ahead,

actually, I like hurting myself accidentally, I don't get blamed for it or looked at funny. I usually end up making the injury bigger because I get angry at my stupidity and punish myself for getting hurt in the first place. It's a weird thing, I know.
Sorry for misunderstanding the duct tape comment. You just included it in the boxcutter sentence so I assumed there was something you did with it. I can imagine trying to pull the hairs off your legs with it or something just as painful :) hehe
Oh where is my mind taking me today??

I am glad Zyprexa is helping with your anxiety. I took Seroquel low dose for over one year for sleep help and it had the added benefit of helping my anxiety tremendously!
I did gain weight from it initially but am taking that off slowly through diet and exercise. I still believe the atypicals cause a metabolism change in addition to the increased hunger.
Good Luck!!

Thank you!
I was researching Zyprexa and it does cause a metabolic change, apparently there is an Ulcer drug which prevents the weight gain from it, but it hasn't been approved yet.Thank you for your kind thoughts.

> How's life with you?
I gave myself a little AA (attitude adjustment) a few weeks ago. I started staying up until 10:30 (instead of crashing at 9), going out until after midnight to hear music, socializing with friends, really doing the so-what-if-I-miss-some-sleep mindset that I should've adopted four years ago when all this started.
I did well--a sleeping pill a week for about three weeks. But I've taken one every night since Monday because my period was late, and it really freaked me out. I'm never late.
But I woke up with good news today (not pregnant!), and I plan to sleep well again tonight. And even if I don't, so what. I'm not going to take a pill.
Otherwise, work is good, teaching is good, family is happy, and I sat in the 65 degree sun yesterday for an hour.
So thanks for asking, even if I gave you more info than you wanted!
I hope you're doing better in week four (?) of your Effexor. You sound like a whole different person. You may not think so, but there's so much hope in you. It's refreshing and a relief after the winter scare.
hugs.

Holy cow beardy!! Yooz been busy!! I hope it has been fun though. I hope I can be that free at some point. Good to hear the family is doing well too.
I am much more hopeful now. I don't know what i was thinking back in december/january. What a freakshow I was. Sorry 'bout that but I appreciate everyone's efforts in trying to get through to me.
I hope you have a wonderful, blissful night's sleep and very pleasant dreams.
take care beardy

I'm doing the same thing re insomnia. I'm just saying heck with you, I'm not going to take a pill. So some nights I lie there for a long time, but I swear I feel about the same in the morning whether I sleep the pill-induced sleep or just tough it out with the insomnia.
This is the end of the thread.
