< I told him I started to get the depersonalization, and deja vu feeling, and sick to my stomach. He said I sat there for 2 min. and smacked and licked my lips, and then started laughing. I didn't remember any of that. That was so strange!>
Hi Jodie & Ritch,I didnt think when I was first told of this that my consciousness was altered..but then people started telling me that I will jerk my head to the right and not say anything and "tune them out" and not respond to what they're saying to me..I didnt realize either that I was doing that.. I had a grand mal on Nardil once (including the whole Jackonsonian march thing) and I wasnt able to respond to the nurse.
Has anyone told you you do any other stuff or react in a way that surprized you, like you didnt know you were doing that?
<Some people have seizures from certain video games and cartoons. >
I have problems every time I stare at my computer. I start feeling unbalanced, I feel like I'm floating..then the odors, then the ticcing then the panic.Do either of you have problems looking at a computer screen?
<or even smelling something can set off a seizure>
This is probably my biggest dilemma, because it interferes with my day so much..I pick up odors that don't even register on anyone elses radar...I hate that!! I'm like at the mercy of my nose! I can't walk past a food court in a shopping mall without having one of these spells..the popourri smell in stores..the soap my mother uses to wash her hands..for me it's like a sensory hell.
hmm..in my past life..I was probably one of those scent dogs that track prison escapees, LOL!

Back when I was 11 or 12 (again-and this happens sometimes nowadays, but not much since I have been taking anticonvulsants for bipolar instead of lithium), I had this really bad problem with echolalia (repeating the last word out loud that someone just spoke to me). My grandpa was always telling me to "stop doing that". And I would ask him what he meant, and I just couldn't recall doing it. Also, I have noticed some echopraxia, where I assume the same postures that other people have when they are tallking to me. One thing that was particularly weird that I noticed when I was taking Prozac---if I read an email or a report that was written by someone that I knew well, I could hear their voice in my head reading it instead of "in my voice", as though they were reading it to me.

No problems there, but when I was on lithium (again), I would see a mouse or something streak across the floor in my peripheral vision and would try to find one and couldn't. One time on Prozac I remember seeing someone in my rear view mirror that wasn't there just for a flash (another peripheral vision thing).>

Yes, I had a few people, mostly friends I hung out with, said I would do, or say something strange. I would just try to find a way to make an excuse.
My fiance has this screen saver on his laptop that has a bunch of colors twisting and turning, with strange shapes, it moves really fast. I get a strange chill when I see that. It hasn't yet sent me into a seizure. I've actually tried to test it before, by watching it for a while. Nothing ever happened. I'm sure there a possibility it could though.
The only thing I find myself doing when I'm on my computer for a long time, is I get spacey. But then again I haven't really had the severe problems now, like I did as a teen. I am almost 27 now. I just live everyday, scared that it is going to start up really strong again. Besides the grand mal seizure I had a month ago, the episodes I have are fairly mild. I don't have problems feeling like a cartoon duck anymore. :-)
But who knows, it could happen any day.You never know, maybe you were one of those dogs!!!
Maybe I was a duck :-)Jodie

I have had those problems too, where I thought I saw something run across the floor, and there was nothing.
That is such a creepy experience.

I had one of those episodes today while in the shower. A really strong deja vu, depersonalization thing....creepy!!! How are you both doing??

hey Jodie~~
Sorry to hear about your latest spell.
I had one too in the shower last week-I'm heat sensitive.
What are you taking for your seizures? Sorry if I asked this before!
Just had another sleep-deprived eeg, I was super tired this time, and the light tests, like the 4th segment I believe, sent me over the edge, which hasnt happened before! Next week I get my second MRI, a closed one (UGH!) I just hope that they only put my face in the tube.
Do your seizures ever happen in clusters? I've noticed that sometimes mine do..if I get one a day, most likely I'm going to get others.
Hope you are feeling better!

I take Klonopin, 1mg twice a day. I was on Dilantin for a few years, couldn't stand the stuff.
Every once in a while I'll just have one spell, but usually they do come in clusters. If I have one, I'll get several a day. That lasts anywhere from 2 days - a week or more. It happened more so when I was younger though. I haven't had any spells since the one that I had in the shower the other day (knock on wood :-)
I haven't seen a neurologist in a long time, because of insurance reasons. I'm getting married soon, then I will be on his insurance, which is good!!! I think I will be going through all those tests again, EEG's, MRI's, and so on. The last time I had any of that done was about 8 years ago. My ex was in the military, and right after I had my son and had my first grand mal seizure. That was when I was put on Dilantin. The neurologist diagnosed me as having TLE. I weaned myself off of Dilantin, after 3 years. I was seizure for at least 5 years. Now just recently, I'm having problems again.
I started taking Klonopin about a year and a half ago for aggitation/irritability. I had my second ever Grand mal seizure a little over a month ago, the ER doc increased my Klonopin dosage, and told me to follow up with a neurologist. So that is where I stand, just taking my klonopin, hoping I don't have very many spells, and no grand mals until I see a neurologist.
Good luck on your MRI..fun fun!! :-)
Take care!!!! Keep me updated!!
Jodie

I too find that I have clusters, same thing, either for a couple days, or like for a week.
I'm sorry your seizure activity came back after so many years of freedom. I know the unsettling feeling of not knowing when you're going to get another one. I sure hope that you will be able to get good control over the seizures, please keep me informed & let me know what you're trying and how you're doing!
After my MRI the neuro is going to try topomax. I pray that I'll be able to tolerate it. I'll post updates. Take care~

The cluster thing sucks, as soon as you get the first spell, its like "here we go again".
Thank you for the support!!!
Topomax, I've seen the name a lot over in psycho-babble, but I really need to research it. I don't really know much about it. I hope it works out for you!!! I'll pray with you!!! Yes, do post updates, I'll do the same.
Take care
Jodie
