Think you're messed up? Read the Ana Creed.

Posted by Gracie2 on October 28, 2002, at 18:32:54

"Ana" is short for pro-anorexic. I was surfing through some of these websites out of curiosity
(I'm Danish, love food way too much to ever give it up myself) and was startled by the complexity
of some these sites, it's like a cult or an underground religion. They have their own jargon
(like "trigger pics" and "mia"), publish links to other sites that have not (yet) been banned, an internet petition against banning "ana" sites, and even their own "commandments". Some of them were sort of frightening, like "Being thin is more important than being healthy". But the following 2 "commandments" in the "Ana Creed" shocked me so much that I wrote them down:

*I believe that I am the most vile, worthless and useless person ever to have existed on this planet, and that I am totally unworthy of anyone's time and attention.
*I believe that other people who tell me differently must be idiots. If they could see how I really am, they would hate me almost as much as I do.

My God! What's the point of that! This "creed" was published on several "Ana" sites that I looked up. Is it to convince themselves that they don't deserve to eat? That they don't deserve to be loved, so they might as well starve, or destroy their health trying? I don't get it.

Boy, and they called me sick.

I'll be surprised if those sites are still up in another week or so. If another site is hosting them (like Yahoo or Geocities), they're pulled off almost as soon as they're put up. But I suppose if you pay for a site yourself, there's not much that can be done to stop them.

There's been battles raged over these ana sites for a few years now. Yes, it does have cult status & it's snared lots of young girls & guys into it who intitially thought it fun to be thin.

I discovered those sites just before they all got pulled off the free servers. There were a bunch. I found them oddly fascinating. Where else would you see twisted thinking spelled out so clearly? OK, I can think of one place--the pro-pedophile sites.

It's just kids romanticizing their pain and dysfunction. Most of the pictures I saw of the real girls who created the sites were of normal weight. Let's hope they're never successful in their quest to be good anorexics.

I really wonder if these sites are put up by sick (I mean that in the TWISTED way) people who get some kind of thrill out of mocking this horrid illness. (Like the same people who taunt others into suicide.) Ugghhh.

I got the impression that these sites aren't "mocking" anorexics - they seem to be very serious, very committed. And these sites ARE fascinating in a twisted way...there's even a site that sells pornographic videos of anorexics.
The "ads" for these videos reminded me of pictures from the Nazi concentration camps. The naked women in them looked more like skeletons than living people...the thought that anyone could be sexually aroused by these pictures is just, well...GAK. The tips and tricks are also horrifying - like the best types of food to regurgitate, and how to hide your hair loss, once
it starts to fall out.
(Shudder.)
