If I Had a Boat
If I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
And we could all together
Go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boatIf I were Roy Rogers
I'd sure enough be single
I couldn't bring myself to marrying old Dale
It'd just be me and trigger
We'd go riding through them movies
Then we'd buy a boat and on the sea we'd sailAnd if I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
And we could all together
Go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boatThe mystery masked man was smart
He got himself a Tonto
'Cause Tonto did the dirty work for free
But Tonto he was smarter
And one day said kemo sabe
Kiss my ass I bought a boat
I'm going out to seaAnd if I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
And we could all together
Go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boatAnd if I were like lightning
I wouldn't need no sneakers
I'd come and go wherever I would please
And I'd scare 'em by the shade tree
And I'd scare 'em by the light pole
But I would not scare my pony on my boat out on the seaAnd if I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
And we could all together
Go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boat

It's a Lyle Lovett song.

...there was a new rule that posters had to use quotation marks and attribute their sources. KidA got blocked for using someone else's words and not attributing it, and there was much debate on PBA about it.
Anyway, I thought those lyrics were terrific, whomever wrote them.

Thanks for bringing that up Beardy, I had not heard about it or if I did, I had forgotten.
Thanks for asking me who wrote it so I could give credit to Lyle Lovett because anyone that reads my ramblings certainly knew it wasn't me.
I really thought most people in the US had heard that song at one time or another. Go listen to Lyle at your CD store, you'll walk out with some good music. Texas Style. I highly recommend the CD that contains the above song, it's called Pontiac. I can't remember the label or producer but I can retrieve it if I need to credit them also. Lyle spent many formative years playing here in Austin. Still plays here a lot.

Okay, yeah, I admit I knew it wasn't you. But I had only heard Lyle Lovett (?) once or twice in blips and blurps--never a whole song. (I don't listen to a station that would play him, but that doesn't say much. Ani's my favorite, and none of the stations play her, either.)
Last Saturday at our block party, I heard a good song and asked who it was. It was Lyle. It was noisy at the block party, and the music was low, but I thought it was Bruce Cockburn, whom I like a lot.
Anyway, I will check him out. Or if someone wants to get me a CD for my fortieth birthday on Tuesday and mail it to me (hint, hint), that would be even better!
