hi all.
I recently was discharged from a mental hospital. I was there for about a week. I was having a really hard time w/ my depression. I cut again too...my arms and legs. I was having obsessive thoughts and plans about suicide. My friend called the ambulance and then I went into the hospital.
I am in a partial hospitalization program now (outpatient), on different meds, and going to my old counselor again.
The meds I'm on now are Depakote (again, but it wasn't monitored before) 1000/mg/day...Celexa 20mg/day and Naltrexone...the Naltrexone is for cutting..>I think it's crap, I don't need it, but I'll listen to the doc for now. Naltrexone is primarily used as an opiate blocker for those addicted to herione (one of the few drugs I have never done) and to treat alcoholism. But my doc said it helps w/ cutting, so she wants me on it.
She thinks I have ADHD, I think that's hillarious. I also think she must be on crack to think that. I am so obviously BP II that it's not even funny. On my discharge sheet she wrote major depression, ADHD and R/O Bipolar...does that mean rule out bipolar?
She had me taking Adderal...funny, an alcoholic/addict taking adderal! I don't need a damn stimulant anyway...sure it may be nice to not be so damn tired, but I know myself, I'll abuse it...and I don't need it. I can't concentrate sometimes due to the depression, I do not have ADHD. She's nutty. But she said I didn't have to take the adderal anymore, so I flushed them.
It's difficult, b/c I have to listen to her, or I'll be considered non-compliant, but some times I think they don't listen to us, ya know? But other than that she's pretty good so far.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm still having trouble with my depression...I feel that I have no control over it...that it's still managing me, not the other way around. I need to get a handle on it in order to manage it.
Help, if you can.

My concern is that depakote is very depressing- have you had a blood level done yet? What was it? Naltrexone actually does help cutting- it blocks the 'pleasure' sites that cutting stimulates- which is the same as opiate users. So in effect you will not be gaining anything by cutting. Yes r/o is rule out and ADHD and BP2 have a lot in common so it's difficult to distinguish in a lot of people. Perhaps when you were using drugs you were self-medicating and that is why they are thinking ADHD. All in all I think you have a good doc, and I hope the group therapy in your partial hosp. will be helpful to you. Take care, judy

Emily Ann,
This is one of those confusing times when you want support about your therapist, but also about your meds. So if I were you, and you are interested in looking into possible drug possibilies, you might also put a message on PB, the medication oriented board. Can't hurt to post there also.
Take care,
Shelli
