The correct use of the apostrophe in posessives and pronouns is as follows=
male posessive = his
female posessive= hers
neutral posessive = its! its! its! NO apostrophe. somehow this was made to distinguish its (posessive) from _it is_.BUT I was really amused by your phrase "my mind has a mind of it's own." LOL.
