Man, I'm applying for "good" jobs with benefits. Sickness led to ambition. If I can at least have financial stability, I figure.
It's tough waiting it out. It's been a month since I started looking. I have one offer (starting July 8) for a boring job (doing TTY typing), but it pays well. Meanwhile, I'm applying at a lot of other good places -- really hoping to get hired by the Compimentary Medicine division of the local hospital.
Were you ever scared of going back to 'normal' life and having to act 'normal' even when you don't feel like it?

Yes I have felt that way. I was very depressed last year (didn't work) and have worked some this year. Still not adjusted. Go back and forth between feeling like an incapacitated depressive and a "normal" competent member of the work force. Actually don't have a regular job so even more back and forth, as still have depressed times.
I think it's great that you're actively looking for work. That's very hard for me when I'm not feeling entirely up to par.

Got a call to come in and interview on a position that really interests me! I really want to work at the complimentary medicine (acupuncture, etc.) division of a local hospital! I'd get great benefits and a flexible schedule for school.
Tomorrow I have a clerical test with the city!
It's nice to see my efforts paying off in some form. :D
The next challenge: work and stability. :D

Way to go bookgurl! I really hope you get the job you want. I have similar interests, I've recently gotten into exercise and nutrition. Acupuncture is something I haven't tried. I'm thinking about going to a massage therapy school, and working in a hospital, clinic, or something like that. How did you get into acupuncture, and what does it do?
I can relate to you when you talk about trying to act "normal" at work. That's been an on-going challenge for me too. Like trying to force smiles and force inflection into my voice. But you know what, I think that if you're in a job that really interests you, then you'll feel a lot better and won't have to act. What do you think?

Hey --
acupuncture just works for me; it makes me feel better overall. i'm not sure that i understand the complete theory behind it, except that it works by stimulating energy meridian points along the body. when my acupuncturist puts the acupuncture needles into me, I can feel a brief electrical shock as my own energy is stimulated to help heal myself.
something else that's helped me a lot is visiting a qualified naturopath.
--anyways, my interview with the hospital went really well. i am not going to get to work in the department i wanted -- it seems that they had a lot of 'transfer' applicants for that job. but i was really sold on working at this hospital once i saw the benefits: health insurance after 1 month, dental after 6, tuition reimbursement, and 20% off on all health care services provided by the hospital. plus, when I glanced at the medical records department, i could tell that they put all the eccentrics there -- I'd fit right in!
so, do you _live_ in Phoenix? Is that why your name is PhoenixGirl? I was just down there for spring break. I liked Northern AZ a lot, but the smog in the city killed me. But I liked the punks and the 'artistic' bus stops.

Hi bookgurl. I don't live in Phoenix, the name is about the mythical phoenix bird.
I'm interested in natural medicine, too, like herbs, and I'm especially interested in nutrition. I eat a lot of soy products, some vegetables (not enough yet), and try to avoid fat and sugar. However I have a major sweet tooth that I cave into frequently! Since changing my dietary habits, I feel a lot cleaner and lighter inside.
About acupuncture, do you think you could maybe do that part-time on your own? You could advertise and build up a regular clientele. It would be good supplemental income and could lead to a full-time self-owned business.

I really hope I get this job; I'd basically fill out info from forms, call people to get their kid's birth information, transmit it to the state, etc. I wouldn't need much short-term memory at all, so even on my slow brain days I'd be allright. It's at a hospital, and the bennies are great. *cha-ching!*
Good luck with your own search; keep me posted.
:D
