The Dr. Bob Annual Convention

Posted by Mr. Scott on January 25, 2002, at 22:44:16

What if there was an annual convention for this web site, or camping trip, or some organized social event, and everyone showed up wearing there screen names on badges.

While I'm sure it would in some way contradict or violate the good doctors research intentions, and will never happen anyways...I find the idea fascinating.

What a new dimension.

Well, a couple of years back we had the "Dr. Bob World Tour", as he made his way around to various conferences and such.

It was kinda like trying to set a date for the next meeting of Procrastinators Anonymous. Too many people too anxious/depressed to (1) get out of bed, (2) make themselves presentable, (3) get out of the house/apartment/bunker, (4) navigate whatever transit system was in place, and (5) make themselves obvious enough in a public place to (6) meet with "total strangers."

[my heartrate doubled just typing that! ;^]

Speaking of conferences, what about sometime between May 18 and 23, in Philadelphia?

Ideas...Dr. Bob, Ever coming to Texas?

Maybe at the convention we could have little yellow "new" hats. Before we spoke, we put on the hat and see if we draw a crowd.
But, if you talk drugs in the psb section, you have to walk across the hall to pb.
Perhaps I should go back to bed...

Dr. Bob...Do you ever come to Texas???

I remember that upcoming meeting and the discussions. It set off panic attacks all over the board. I was freaking out in Texas.

Of course, I didn't add that for the NYC event, the "cruise director" in me* started planning all sorts of stuff to do, and then I said the (black) magic word: photos.

YIKES!

But Dr. Bob, Angie (I think) and I did have a good beer or two together.

*I have a friend who has a theory about "middle" children -- that they all grow up to be cruise directors in one way or another.

I was just in San Antonio, but it was quick, and packed, so I didn't have any extra time... Boy, January is nice down there! :-)

That's a hoot! But I'm mighty sure I'd avoid some camps like the plague, so perhaps it's better I said nothing more.
