No quick sessions....I learned by just clicking round on anything , making mistakes. Did a course years ago , the manual was HUGE , I never read the monstrous thing . It was the first time that I used the pc and wasn't afraid to press buttons the tutor eventually left me to my own devices.
Usually I fiddle round with several layers of pics then merge them and of course there are so many pluggins/filters for free on the web.
Just get some music going and go play ........
that's all for now cause I'm starting to sound rational;^)

dreamerx........ now attempts to re-direct

Your attempt worked! If it isn't a quick sit kind of thing, then I'm doomed. Exactly how long would you sit at one time, and how long did it take to learn? What version do you use?

I don't understand how I can format, install hardware, and build a pc, yet can't learn PS, I did have more time to doing that kinda stuff many moons ago....

You were starting to sound sane, and it was kinda scary 'cuz I was starting to understand, or maybe you weren't sane-and I understood because I'm insane as well :-)!!!!

Let's see if I can maintain a rational normal post...deep breath here goes.........

How long do I sit at a time?
Until my eyes start steaming or I get bored and do something else , usually only a couple of hours.
(am I doing well sanity - wise)
I'm still using my friends pc. Mine apparently is fixed but have not dared to turn it on in fear of it not running smoothly....it was the ram chips.
In the very near future when I get my own home HOORAY!! I'll have to educate myself on the hardware - maintaining the thing.
(you haven't fallen asleep yet?)
Guess I'm a software kinda gal and you're the hardware type of gal.
Oh , it's photoshop 5 but seems there is a 6 now.

Wow ...how'd I do?

dreamerx upto 50mg of that damn drug.

photoshop 5 is the home owners version- mostly for screwing around with already created images. photoshop 6, however, is awesome. photoshop literally lets you create something out of nothing. i made all of the backgrounds on my website in photoshop, as well as most of the .gif titles. software is so much fun to playwith- at school i used to spend my lunch in the computer lab working on my site- those computers had *everything* including illegal flash.

So far so good on the sanity part...are you taking Lamictal? If so, I'll have to switch before it hits me, sanity would ruin my reputation :-)

I wish I had a couple of hours, I'd feel so blessed. I started this post at 8:00, it's now 9:53 but who's counting..I don't know where to start after opening the pic. The format is so different from what I'm used to, and it has a lot of options I've never SEEN before. Micrografx was simple for what I needed at the time, and almost feel I wasted my time getting PS.

Take the plunge and turn it on. Who fixed it, a pro or a friend? If you took it wasn't a friend and doesn't work, there should be some kind of warranty? (you probably know that already, but I'm used to working with people that have no idea how to do anything except turn it on and log on to the net and check email (I had to show them).

I'm so excited for you being so close to getting your own home. I'm self taught on everything I know-close to taking the MOUS Master exam (Microsoft Office User Specialist)

Yes, I'm still awake at this point ;-) I subscribed to all sorts of E-zines, newsgroups, discussion boards, all sorts of things to learn what I know. I guess it depends on the software, etc. I can maintain my own-we could start our own business-you software and me hardware..hehe

I have PS 6, what a waste, huh? I've installed & uninstalled so many times it's unreal...I usually get frustrated, uninstall then reinstall when I have the urge to try again. At this point, it's making me dizzy.

Talk at ya later

You aren't buting in at all, I appreciated the additional feedback. How did you learn, if you don't mind my asking-sounds like you took a course? Where did you start?? It drives me crazy to have software and not know how to do anything with it. Sounds like you've become another pro. Do you know Flash as well? I have that, something called Freehand, and Image Ready, but haven't even opened those two. Always something to learn...

I've provided Dr. Bob with an edited version of his pic. If he likes it he's welcome to use it.

I used Photoshop 6.0.

I use this program daily in my Web work. ;-)

He's got a great site going here. I like how he plays with his piccie!

Kiddo,

For me the best place to learn it was at a Community College in Chicago. You get the same teachers you get from Mac University and The Art Institute of Chicago for about 1/4 the tuition!!!

If you are willing to put up with the bureaucratic BS and perhaps some out of date equipment (sometimes) and surly administrators then this is a great deal! I loved my professors for Web classes and design classes.

I learned the following at Chicago Community Colleges:

HTML
Illustrator
PhotoShop
Quark
Freehand
And a little bit of JavaScript

This set me up for a career in the Web World. It's a little more difficult to enter this world now but when I started there were no certificates. The only thing a potential client cared about is whether or not you could do the job they wanted to get done. Ability weighed more than certificates or degrees. Ahhh those were the days..... ;-)

I'm glad I got in when I did....

photoshop 5 is what you get with basic computer software. photoshop 5.5 is usually what you get when you get a scanner or some little neato toy like that. photoshop 6 is the professional.

i took internet/multimedia at school as part of my technology graduation requirement. there was some instruction, but mostly it was exploration and experimentation. you could really take it as far as you wanted to go. at first it was *really* frustrating- i'll admit to calling over the computer geeks on a regular basis to tell me what i was doing wrong. but once you get the hang of it, its a lot of fun. i wish i knew flash. i got to play around with it once, since it *was ilegally copied* and i fell in love with it. i fall in love with a lot of software :)

i would love to have new software to play with, but right now im trying to defeat the evil hybris95 virus thats attacked my computer. its a losing battle thus far. then i get the burner installed, and i have atleast three more programs to install. if i dont end up reformatting my computer anyways.

i wouldnt consider myself a pro, just very bored and very curious. i cant do anything in html beyond the basics, if you gave me a week with flash i could probably make something happen.

i'm not familiar with the software that you have, but they both sound like fun :)

Kiddo said you were having a problem with a virus and since she was having difficulties getting on Babble tonight she wanted me to give you this link that might help out. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.hybrisf.fix.html
