Julie,

I think I read that you are a dealer in Vegas, I can only imagine how hard having a job like that can make it when you try to stop drinking. One of the jobs I had when I first quit was a beer vendor at a ballpark...needless to say I had to give that one up.

I wish you all the best.

Greg

I'm not the newest sober poster anymore!

Julie,

I do wish you luck, but more than that I give you a pat on the back for taking the first step. It's six weeks for me now. Much as I complain about not feeling any great surge of wellness, I do feel better physically, but more, I feel a sense of accomplishment and relief that I have gotten past something that just had to be bad for me.
What do you plan to do with the time you used to spend drinking? Or with the time when you now feel well enough to do something other than nurse a hangover. Mindless TV can be pretty boring.

Congratulations,

Greg A. who does not live in Vegas or anywhere near

I'd like to join the group...

Can't promise a thing, but am going to try to cut out all alcohol for a month, which I used to do frequently, but haven't for awhile.

Am going to speak with pdoc about why I still have the need to self-medicate with it at times. That is going to be tough - can talk about almost anything, but not that.

I won't commit to "being sober" - it doesn't work with me. I get really rebellious, and I'll be drinking this evening if I deny myself alcohol forever. But I Can commit to Only drinking Very, Very moderately when I start again, a drink at a sitting. I know that's controversial, but it's the only way it could work for me.

You all please don't post lots of anti-moderation posts right now. You can later, but I don't feel up to defending it...

No more wine, though - it's too tempting. Don't like beer as much, so that way I can have a special Octoberfest beer or some eggnog at Christmas.

Sorry, just thinking aloud.

Greg A. - you have been a great inspiration. As I recall from doing this before, I mostly felt more in control and had a bit more energy. We'll see.

Thanks.

- K.

KK, i say the same thing, it is controversial, but i think that "forever" statement makes it a forbidden fruit...when my pdoc made me promise to not drink anymore before she'd give me the sample packs of prozac, my mind got all screwed up and i started drinking daily.

don't.

i'm not joining the group, but just wanted to add my support. a couple of days ago i took an extra klonopin, a hot bath, and listened to Beethoven's Adagio for Relaxation in candlelight. it took me about 45 min to fall asleep (insomnia scares the hell out of me, i think thats why i get so drunk at night, so i can pass out) but it was very *pleasant* it felt good, i can't remember having such a relaxing experience in a long time.

best wishes to all of you,
sar
