I have decided I am not sick

Posted by susan C on October 9, 2001, at 18:36:59

I have decided I am not sick, I am not crazy, I am just a special one percent of the population that happens to be happy one minute and very sad the next.

I have decided I am not sick, I am just sick of trying medications and talking about being sick.

I have decided that all the chemicals I have taken and all the doubleblind placebo controled research funded by pharmacedical companies that i have tried to read and understand are just a load of horse pucky and all deserve to be pitched in the recycle bin and used for cellulous insulation in low income housing. That my wee brain is not academic enough to sort through and compare the differences and I am tired of pretending or trying to try to understand.

I have decided that the day it is sunny I will wash my windows with q-tips or cotton buds depending on whether or not I want to be in England or not.

And the day it rains, i will iron my Iranian handwoven rung number 17406, which is loosing some of its nap on one end, and one of those rainy days I will rework the end of the rug so it will be safe and secure.

And the handful of pills I take every day will be sent to the incinerator, not flushed down the toilet, because, I don't want the fish in the bay to wake up one morning and say...

Oh, I am not feeling steady on my feet today.

I will drink water, eat my fruits and vegetables and make sure I eat enough fiber and take a walk even if it is only to the garbage can, 10 steps away from my door.

I am not sick, I am just different.

Are you a professional writer?
Well done!

>Susan - I thought this was great - a unique take on a recurring dilemma. I can get just a fed up with treatment issues as I can with symptoms themselves. Periodically i tell myself that "i'm not sick" or that "I'm making too big a deal about this and getting too wrapped up in it." Unfortunately sometimes it seems that these messages to myself contain an implied self criticism. No sooner than I start thinking I can deal with things on my own without sweating meds changes or dealing with shrinks and therapists, i take a nose dive. The whole concept ends up not being freeing as I'd like, but being bred of a certain desperation. I hope this is NOT what's going on with you.

I hope my expression of irony, sarcasum, indignation and frustration had the right amount of silliness in it to let you all know I am staying the course. Much appreciation for the forum to express myself and receive support. Thank you all for your thoughful responses.

Off to nap and listen to the wind howl...my sunflowers' leaves are developing bright yellow sploches as the sun heads south. Maybe I will leave them up all winter and watch them change?

Mousey, you are not sick, you are on the mend, really! I have read your posts, and you are more with it than quite a few of us in dealing with your chair in the roller-coaster of life. I have really enjoyed corresponding with you on PB, and through email. I hope the rest of the babblers realize that you, Susan, are one of the bright stars in this otherwise dark world. I like you, and besides, you keep ol' Pax on his toes. Even when you are down, you are quick to offer someone else some support. That means a lot. We all have the ability to help each other, yet many of us feel unsure of ourselves. The mouse has been an inspiration to the Paxter, I'm happy to have found this board and your emotings.
