Hey everyone! I actually have something positive to share. I just got diagnosed with hypothyroidism. While this may not seem like good news on the surface, I'm thrilled. I have suspected for a few years that I was hypothyroid but doctors blew me off because the only test they knew to order came back within normal limits. Finally, my thyroid has gotten to the point where the basic test is highly abnormal and there's no doubt left. This diagnosis explains so many symptoms I've been having. A year and a half ago, I was kicked out of the Air Force for being overweight. I told them that I was on a very restrictive diet and exercised frequently but still couldn't lose weight, they called me a liar. I had been in for 15 years and loved my job. I was only 5 years away from retirement and they fired me with no benefits. My family and I went through hell. We were ruined financially. Now I can prove that my weight problem was NOT my fault. I don't know what to do at this point but they owe me and I intend to collect. Thyroid disorders are a major cause of depression and very common. I urge all of you to get checked.

Hey Chick!
I am so happy now there is an explanation... And you can change your name on the Board to aknockoutchic, or something more kind to yourself...
The doctors at the Air Force should be ashamed of themselves for not having done a thyroid test right at the time! It's been known for MANY years that thyroid problems can affect weight! It's like with the Kristi surgery disaster - we know more about our own bodies than some shit doctors do!
Sue them for back pay AND pain and suffering... You deserve a nice FAT settlement (hee hee).
Sending a hug to ya,
Wendy

I concur! Private Benajamin look out!
You go for your rights, but don't let it interfere with your living today. Don't let the bureaucracy tow you under.

I so completely understand - it is good news! Good luck getting it under control and getting back what is rightfully yours. I'm sorry for the pain it has caused.

Thank you! It feels great to get such positive and passionate responses. Today, I contacted a lawyer who specializes in lawsuits against the military. I'll keep you all posted.
