Hi,
I just wanted to tell everyone that I finally tested and passed my first Taekwondo test last night. I've been doing this off and on since the fall of '98. But everytime I was supposed to test, I'd just quit because I'd panic. Then I'd start about 6-7 months later. Only to do it again the next time.
Last night I finally achieved my first goal of many. I'm now a yellow belt. Still way down there (low-high green, low-high blue, brown, and then black.) And you have to test for the low and high, and then wait two months in between testing.
I'm really excited. It's the first time I've had enough self confidence to actually follow through. (taking my meds didn't hurt, either) I can say for the first time in my life I'm proud of myself!!!!
I've had to clue my instructor in on my background, because of the panic attacks, etc... He's actually been great about it, because he doesn't freak out or anything, and instead takes me through breathing, punching and kicking exercises, and works me through the attacks. My pdoc wasimpressed, and thinks it's great.
In the beginning it really bothered me because he knew, but now I've seen it as a stepping stone, to aid in obtaining what I want out of life.
I was so excited I just wanted to let you know :-)

You've done way better than me. I've wanted to start Tai Chi. Maybe you could give some encouragement. Keep checking in and let us know how it is going!
CONGRATS!

> Passing the test is a great achievment, but the greater achievement may have been being able to feel proud of yourself. What a wonderful thing?

That's wonderful! Thanks for posting about it! It
made me smile. I think it's great that you have such
a kind and supportive teacher. Yay! You go! Thanks
for the inspiration.
This is the end of the thread.
