I do not like your picture, Dr. Bob

The picture is too dark and ominous. Put a happy or goffy one, pretty please :-)

He appears to be invading our space, doesn't he? ...looks a little tooooo close for comfort and I just don't know about that look in his eyes.

Can't see his hands either. Could he be (shudder) ...sneakin' up on one of us with a straight-jacket, "knock-out" needle or (gulp) ...maybe a baseball bat?

What's he up to? :?(

Has anyone else noticed that he is wearing his Startrek uniform? It appears he is in the process of beaming up of down or in or out or?? I encourage your continued surveillance.

Your picture, Dr. Bob

It looks like the perspective is off. Like when someone takes a picture shooting up at you* (the subject is higher than the photographer). It's almost like the bottom part of the face is closer than the top part. And he/you looks sort of serious and intense.

*This style of photography is strictly forbidden in my family, as well as profiles, and woe to the photographer that breaks the rules.

Is this picture like a Rorschact (sp?) test or what?

I also think we are being tested. Maybe Dr. Bob is curious about participant's reaction to the moderator. His board, his experiments.

Or, it could just be dry humor. Interesting guy :-)

The good doc seems to be a man of vision. The unorthodoxy of this site and its boards combined with what is his obvious dedication to proper research is bound to forward human understanding with regard to our plight in new, important ways that are meaningful, useful and praise-worthy.

His future, well-earned reward is virtually inevitable. First comes the Nobel nomination...next thing ya' know he's a laureate, a celebrity...then comes the deals: books, television, movies.

Who knows, these fine works of Dr. Bob may make him rich one of these days. Maybe it's a good time for us to get a piece of the action now, huh? Can you say LEVERAGE!

Your "always negotiating",

Ambassador B

You mean Dr. Bob might be using us for money and fame? That is so ironic! Here WE are, huddled on the couch in the dark with a blanket and teddy bear, and all we really want is to be left alone by the outside world. Well, I MIGHT open the door for a giant check from Publishers' Clearing House, but that's IT.

Well, I would not quite go that far. :-)

The question that I always ask myself is why does Dr. Bob put so much of his free time (i.e. his life) into this board. The obvious answer(s) to that question is very intriguing to me. Makes him human just like the rest of us.

NO! No! NO! I mean Dr. Bob is a very curious person by nature and he is driven to transform his curiosity into reality. In this case, I believe he was just curious as to what this controversial picture of his would evoke in his participants.

Out of kindness and appreciation to him for providing us with this means of communication, we should continue on with our discussion. I think Dr. Bob is a good person. But like all therapist, he is trained to be congruent/transparent. So, let humans be humans :-)

P.S. I made a promise to someone that I would not reply to this board till Thursday (Happy Thanksgiving!). Carry on...this thread is very interesting. Too bad we are not in a real therapy setting, else we just might get some responses from the object of our affection :-)

From the "disclaimer" at the top of this board: Submitting a message gives me permission to use it as I wish.

Dr. B has already told us pretty clearly that he can do what he will with our posts. It seems that the most logical use would be research (and a few archives back he did post hypotheses about psychology on the internet or something like that, and asked for feedback). I imagine if something is funny he'd get a chuckle out of it, but he doesn't intervene very much at all (he isn't directive, and doesn't post about what people should do unless it involves civility). He has posted useful information on topics that were being discussed.

So I have a hard time being too concerned about his motives, or if his new pic is a test, etc. I don't think he tests us or tries to trick us, or does experimental manipulation on the board. On the other hand, as jaded as I am, I am very gullible in some ways, so he could be doing all of the above and I'd never suspect it.

If he becomes the next Joyce Brothers based on PB and PSB, and enjoys some celebrity that's ok with me. But, I would be surprised if that was his goal. He obviously feels a certain responsibility to keep the board as "safe" as possible by asking people to be civil, and has shared pretty freely with us about his professional life (I'm thinking of the convention he went to where he got together with some PB folks). My perception is that he is above board (so to speak), and trustworthy. But, remember, me=gullible.

There is no Dr Bob. The letters of his name are rearranged to spell B borD. This is obviously a reference to the bulletin board as well as the perpetrator of this fraud. He B bord so he B amusing himself with this counterfit character. The odd angle of the photographs is obviously the result of the furtive angle of the photographer using hidden cameras. I suggest that the REAL Robert Hsuing is unaware of the board being run in his name. I wouldn't B surprised if the REAL Robert Hsuing was a supporter of free speech even to the point of "incivility". Thus this board is a cruel hoax and a mockery of his ideal of free interchange of ideas and is being perpetrated by his foes!!!!.

Hey, Rzip, I have held back from this discussion because I think you told us you were trying to curb how involved you got here, as part of your therapy to deal with preoccupations.

I am glad you are now pulling back again--it seems in the long run it is what is in your interest.
