Question for Ms. Schmidt re: folie a deux

Posted by Karen Moore on February 25, 2004, at 22:53:43

Ms. Schmidt,

In your work and studies, how often have you seen true "folie a deux", i.e. shared delusional/psychotic disorder?
I apologize if this is not the appropriate place to post such a question, but I'm not sure where else it might fit.

I know of a very strange case of this, including shared vivid/detailed/complex hallucinations. And I'm just wondering if this is really all that rare.

Thanks,
Karen Moore

Unfortunately, I don't have the expertise to answer your question about folie a deux. I suspect that it is a relatively rare phenomenon in the form you describe.
