I see there has been a terrorist attack on the Taj Palace Hotel, (one of the nicest hotels in which I have stayed, with very nice food).

So the terrorists go through the hotel looking for anyone with a US or UK passport.
No mention of Australians, but I wouldn't like my chances.There seems to be a reaction to the English speaking world.
What is it?
A foreign policy thing?
We are back to 'Why do they hate us?'
Which isn't a question we handle particularly well, at least not in the past.

Hope you're having a great Thanksgiving. Actually, my comment was giving a small nod of "You're not as bad as some make you out to be" to the right wing--I was not trying to put them down at all. Perhaps I just worded it wrong--it was very late and I was tired. Sorry for the misunderstood message--truly it was a offhand remark and I didn't think anything of it. Now--let's eat some turkey! :)

I hope Pakistan does something very quickly to defuse this situation-- because as evidence of some involvement by people in Pakistan-- and Pakistan government's either tacit ancouragement or passivity with regard to terrorist activities grows-- which I fear it will-- this could become really threatening. I can't say that they (the Pakistan government) has done a thing, yet, to restore confidence. And it seems the Indian people have lost faith in their own government. I wonder what that portends.
The ferocity of these terrorists is truly frightening. I was sitting in a theatre yesterday and imagining relaxing in a restaurant (or other public place) when a group of AK-47-wielding cutthroats move in, remorselessly killing people. I can't comprehend the horror of that.

I heard that one was quite young.....17. No regrets presumably.
The whole Afghanistan/Pakistan area has been thoroughly militarized.
There was a time, a long time ago now, when Central Asia was the place to be?
Nice people, nice religion, all gone now.
I imagine the Pakistani Government is inoperative, but of course in possession of nuclear weapons.

You can't bomb a climate of ideas into submission. The perception presumably is that Islam is under threat and all means are OK to defend it. Since the Anglo world has done so much to facilitate this view, we are the ones they want to kill. How far back do we have to go? Back to the Ottoman Empire, I suppose. And, of course, the proxy war in Afghanistan against the Soviets. Was that Brezhinski? Did he say 'We will give the Soviets a Vietnam?' Or do we go back to Mossadeq? Saudi Arabia? The oil?
I can't imagine they are very impressed with lectures on democracy coming from us, especially after Iraq.
I feel sorry for the women, the progressives and the moderates who live in this part of the world. Sufiism was really nice too. Hafiz, Rumi.
I sure hope Obama does something about renewable energy.
