****Triggers for the sqeamish...., though on Countdown tonight, the worst parts were pixellated out.
Best laugh I've had in weeks. Sarah Palin's post-turkey pardon press conference--complete with turkey slaughters in the background...

My stomach still hurts from laughing so hard.

I heard about that. But I couldn't watch the video! She just stood there?

Just stood there and kept talking in her way while at least two turkeys were, um, processed. Each took about a minute, and while they were, um, busy, the guy holding them by their feet would turn around to face the camera and watch the proceedings. He wasn't exactly grinning, but it was just so bizarre and ironic. Reportedly the cameraman told her what was in the background, and she replied something along the lines of, "No worries."
I was grateful for the pixellation, but there were times it would suddenly go away, and then you could see a turkey in its place. There wasn't anything nasty to see on the turkey then, but it was weird how it just "appeared" and then would disappear again.

I "accidentally" saw a photo of it and no way can I watch the video. As I've gotten older, I've got so much more soft-hearted and I honestly didn't think I could get much softer.
She is a trip! If you brag about being able to "field-dress a moose" then I suppose that killing turkeys is "no problem".

Well I'm a vegetarian, I didn't vomit but obviously, the non-hunter-gatherer culture we live in sees only a frozen block of turkeyness in the supermarket.
No, I'm not a huge PETA person, so go ahead, have your turkey with the trimmings while I'll have a celebration field roast or something :)
What I was thinking was, my god, is this Tina Fey or Palin, because there was no difference!! :) Where on earth does she get that accent? I've never heard it while I was traveling in Alaska.
I'm glad she wasn't governor when I took a long trip to Alaska to visit my roots. Previous governors would be rolling in their graves considering prior to statehood Alaska and Hawaii had polar (huh, a joke) opposites in political views.Yes, my Grandfather hunted deer occasionally but um, they ate venison. No antlers and bear carpets.
Just a personal opinion, if you're going to go out and blast a .50 (and not hit your friend like our Vice President does, but he lives in a cave somewhere in the Appalachians), you should eat what you downed, minus the gutting of the lead and nasty stuff and not make carpets only -- the Alaskan Inuit historically used all the parts and had values with their animist religion, and there were no trophies on their skin tents and igloos.

I grew up in southeastern Oklahoma and my family hunted to provide us with food. We lived on a ranch and with the food that provided we also served a lot of venison and other wild game. Mostly venison.
Daddy used as much of the deer as possible..he even made chair seats with the hides. I wish I had those chairs now.
I don't believe that it is cool to shoot and leave or fish and release.

Wild turkeys CAN fly. Those raised on a farm to accompany your stuffing cannot.
When driving down a country road, if something looking like a large feathered bowling ball flies overhead....that's a turkey.

Yes, wild turkeys can be really startling. I've lived in an area where there were many, and encountering one was always interesting.
I was alluding to the great "WKRP in Cincinnati" Thanksgiving episode when Mr. Carlson (I think that was his name, the station manager character) did this giveaway promo event where he dropped a bunch of live turkeys from a helicopter flying over the city. Reporter Les Nesman was on the ground to cover the event live on the radio, and his report went the way of the reporter for the Hindenburg incident as he said, "Oh the humanity!" as turkeys were falling all around him. Gordon Jump, as Mr. Carlson later said, "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!"
A classic, and any turkey "incident" reminds me of this favorite old TV show.
Now, don't get me started on the phone police. :D
