Another closed window of opportunity, I imagine.
Perhaps a lesson in the dangers of emotion in foreign policy.
I remember hearing a US citizen on an Australian program before Iraq but after Afghanistan. The overwhelming sentiment on the program was that doing Iraq was a bad idea. He asked everyone directly: 'Well you answer me this then. If we don't do Iraq, what should we do?', and though I thought the answer was 'Do Afghanistan properly', I wondered if his question caught the national mood.
At the Sydney Writers Festival some person said that the window of opportunity in Iraq was 36 hours. It would have been way longer than that in Afghanistan.
