So it's Obama then?
John Howard said that Obama was the candidate of choice for Al Queda and Obama replied by asking if John Howard would send 30,000(!) troops to Iraq, which was one of the bright spots before the last election .
It seems that so much promise invites retribution.
Is that how it is?

It may invite retribution, but there's good reason to be hopeful that voters will see past the manipulations this year.

Well, they made Bush a war hero (can that be true?) and Kerry a draft dodger.
Let me try again.
They made Kerry a coward and Bush something else.
And then there was the congressman who had no legs from the Vietnam war. I forget. Did he turn out to be a coward too?
It must be quite exciting.But look, seriously, last night I heard a talk Muhammid Yunnis gave to the Commonwealth Club in San Fransisco.
Truly, he was something else.

The smear machine suggested that Max Cleland owed his political career to his own incompetence in blowing his legs off with his own grenade. (A rather cunning move on his part, eh?) See, for instance, http://www.buzzflash.com/contributors/04/02/con04074.html
Interestingly enough, since the 2000 primaries John McCain received the same treatment at the hands of those who felt he wasn't the right kind of conservative. Mocking him for "losing" five aircraft as a Navy pilot (including the mission where he was shot down and imprisoned and for being in a plane struck my an errant missile abord the USS Forrestal), at least one group still hopes to persuade the Republican convention to reject him.

They'll certainly go after Obama with the same high regard for truth. I just think the electorate has figuring out that they've been manipulated to their own detriment.

For many Australians, schooled in the ways of Mr Howard, this statement acquired the status of a compliment.
For a decade one politician after another failed to gain any purchase on Mr Howard.
To see him so deftly and effortlessly dealt with was a visceral pleasure to savour again and again.It's too much, I know, to hope that our leaders might show by example that we are all in this together but Obama seems (from here) to offer the prospect of a break in a particularly negative political pattern.

Yes I know exactly what you mean and to think maybe people might make a break and show they are not sheep but people and just vote for someone based on their own gut instincts versus other bullcrap might be something to wish upon a star for?
