When I read this, in today's fine McClatchy's newspaper, I was aghast:
"CIA Director Michael Hayden has taken a hard line against leaks because he believes national security has been damaged by disclosures of the administration's domestic eavesdropping program and the identity of an undercover CIA officer married to a White House critic."
I hope the writer of this piece is mistakenly attributing these fears to Mr. Hayden, especially the last one. Surely Mr. Hayden knows who his employer is?

Hey there
I'm not familiar with McClatchy.
Maybe the CIA is annoyed?
That wonderful poet person ("What I learned about Iraq".... What is his name?)said that in the event of a last roll of the dice in Iran (more than just a bombing?) the army would rather stage a coup, which I took to mean that it was really annoyed too.
I have mixed feelings about the CIA these days, which came as some surprise.
Have a nice one.

That poet would be Eliot Weinberger.
McClatchy's is one of the few sources of reliable journalism in our country.
The CIA is, I think, annoyed, though we have seen so much turnover (someone wanted Porter Goss to testify under oath on this tapes matter, and it seems eons ago that Bush sent him home to obscurity- he too had a thing about leaks) that it is hard to know if we are talking about professionals or those who came to this business for other than professional reasons. Mercenaries, as this telling little State Dept memo about Blackwater so eloquently conveys, are better at gaining profit than anything else:Note 6 -- Profit [redacted] Profit is a matter under the purview of the contracting officer.
For precisely this reason, Machiavelli thought mercenaries the poorest of all soldiers. But if Weinberger is right, you can count on Blackwater taking up the slack, not the U.S. Army.
Fascinating that everything is redacted these days.
Wishing you the best.

for my suspicion and yours regarding the CIA. Undiluted Republican opinion is found in the writings of Robert Novak, who is the one who first published Valerie Plame's name, in his influential column in the Washington Post (second only to the New York Times in respectability).
Perusing the news this Christmas morning (yes, I have no better things to do) I found this article, which explains quite a bit:http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/23/AR2007122302073.html
Now I know why Mr. Hayden made his comment. I wonder how much longer his tenure will last.
