Yes, this is serious stuff, and thrown away so easily, strangely easily. It makes you think.
These are not times of maximum peril, although we seem to be heading in that direction.
You're not talking about rendition though?

Rendition is one of the actions that can be taken after habeus corpus is revoked, a particularly horrible one, IMO, but more generally, one can lose the right to be told the charges against one and to appear in court to dispute being held, and to show that it's being done unlawfully.
People can be put into prison by the government, never charged, and kept there with no showing of any probable cause, much less guilt.
While I can't believe this will hold up in court, it should never have to get to that.

That's the thing that scares me the most this Halloween season. How obnoxious would it be to decorate my yard for Halloween with a tombstone for my buddy Habe?

Kind of an interesting idea. Then you can give a civics lesson to kids who come trick or treating. (I'm sure they'll love that.)
