Is there an engaging quote?
And while were on Rumsfeld, can anyone explain (if it is so) why he's not considered a neocon.

Rumsfeld gave an address in Utah yesterday.
I personally agree with Keith Olbermann, and greatly disagree with Rumsfeld.
I'd give the sites of Olbermann's commentary on Rumsfeld's speech, and Rumsfeld's speech, but both would be uncivil here.
I'm offended by what Rumsfeld said, by the way.

But not by what gg said. Thanks, by the way, for alerting me to it.
I've been so preoccupied with pbabble, that I've neglected the news.

One of the fun things about history books is judgements. I liked Fisk's of Rumsfeld. It was so brief, so passing, like it was an obvious and easy point to make and unlikely to be disputed. From memory it was that Rumsfeld revealed himself to be disreputable.

By the way,
Dear Mr. Rumsfeld: Please be civil.I was awed by Olbermann's commentary. Truly awed and moved. I wanted to write to him and invite him to dinner. :)
Love that show. We Tivo it every night.

Sorry for not providing any context or quotes. I was in a hurry and just needed to get that out. I posted a site where you can get more info in my reply to Jost.
About the neocon thing...I have no idea. Hmmm, I wonder if my neck is stiff from shaking my head so much as I watch the news. Maybe I should switch to wagging my finger for awhile. :)

“We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty,” he said, in 1954. “We must remember always that accusation is not proof, and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law.
“We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men, not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate, and to defend causes that were for the moment unpopular.”
And so good night, and good luck.
I really loved that film.
It may interest you that our most entertaining of foreign ministers (not my description) uses the same lines about appeasement. This is unfair to those who opposed appeasement, and incidentally of Chamberlain, IMO.

If I don't get to the paper, which in my city isn't misisng much since it's very slim pickings on national news, I can at least laugh while I catch up with those two fine, yet apparently morally and intellectually confused gentleman. ;)

How and when did asking the administration to come up with and articulate a plan for ending the war (in whatever time frame is best) become equal to appeasement????

In today's paper Fred Halliday credited Hannah Arendt and Isaac Deutscher with 'moral clarity' over Israel. It's good to see some people taking back these words.
Ending the war becomes appeasement if we need endless (limited, as opposed to the other sort) war.
Maybe independant thought becomes appeasement. It would become so, I'm sure, in the event of a major terrorist attack here
The amounts of money involved in the contracts are stunning, reflected in the Halliburton share price increase from $22 to $74 over the 3 years to July 06. $12.3 billion in contracts in the last 5 years. War is profitable enough.
The Prime Minister's son has/had a consultancy with Halliburton.

that covers a little of the same territory is "Angels in America".
Al Pacino's portrait of Roy Cohn is wonderful.

"...question the morality and the intellect of those of us who dare ask just for the receipt for the emperor's new clothes."
From Keith Olbermann's commentary at the end of the show on Wed. August 30. He was pretty peeved to say the least, about Rumsfeld's remarks.

And then President Bush compared Islamic fundamentalism to fascism.
I dunno how much is forgotten. He does himself a disservice to say such things.
