I get about 1 jury summons a year. In my state they go random by drivers license and voter registration, so everybody is supposed to serve.
My wife has only been called once in the 12 years we've been together. I lied, I think i've only been called 5 or 6 times in the same period. My upstairs neighbor has never been called.
I believe in doing my civic duty so this is not about that, but I think I'm getting my father's calls too. He has left the state, and we have the same name but for the II at the end.
The judges and I always end up in a fight. Sooner or later I'm going to end up in contempt and a jail cell. One of them badgered me until I finally told him there is no way I am going to put someone in jail for 99 years on a third felony drug charge, regardless of the law. Another had a problem because I said that given all the proven police and prosecutorial misconduct in our city and state, I would have a prejudice against the testifying police officer. And the Last One argued with me about what part of town I lived in. I'm in between. He had my gd-ed zip code. They haul you around from room to room and hallway then treat you like the accused with their guns and attitudes.
I have two physical conditions plus mental that make it unreasonable for me to serve right now. My wife was going to help me and get me a note from a doctor saying now wasn't a good time. But that isn't one of their disqualifications for service, so I would still have to go downtown first thing in the morning present my excuse and depend on the whim of a judge.
so - The point of the story. I went on the county website to find out if I could check why I get summoned so often. And ended up in the disqualification section. And in the spur of the moment I clicked that I was "of unsound mind AND poor moral character." I feel like absolute nothing.
I let the bastards get to me and I Hate myself.

James,
Maybe its just me, but I think you won. Not sure I understand why you feel like absolute nothing. You know (and I know from reading just a few of your very sweet and supportive posts) that you are not of bad moral character. And we are ALL of unsound mind or we wouldn't be here ; )
James, you did what you had to do to end the badgering. Let it go and be glad it's over. You have a life to live, and enough problems already or you wouldn't be here. I'm glad you are here by the way, you write some wonderfully supportive posts.

It never fails (remember I'm in the same jury pool as you) that if I get on a panel I'm chosen for the jury.
I feel I maybe can be a voice of reason in the deliberations. Goodness knows this county can use one.

I just hope I'm not permanently off the list over a bad patch in my life and a momentary impulse. Maybe if I just show up like nothing happened. "that wasn't me that said I was crazy. Do I look crazy to You?!!!
How dare you call me crazy!" That should do it.James K

For some reason they think I'm too outspoken and opinionated. ;)
This is the end of the thread.
