tasering mentally ill to death

Posted by James K on January 21, 2006, at 10:23:29

There is a guy here in my city. He recently was in one of the mental hospitals I've been in twice. They put him on zyprexa for either severe bipolar or schizophrenia. The accounts conflict. After release from hospital, relative calls police. He's either acting out or assaulting someone. They take him to County Jail where after 12 days of wandering around gen pop, they decide to transfer him to the mental hospital part of jail. He may or may not have gotten his meds. They may or may not have known he needed them. But their policy is when they transfer a dangerous inmate they taser first. The rushed into his cell six strong and tasered him 1 to 6 times acounts vary. Now he is dead. I'm glad the world is liberated. When is someone going to come free us? From the stun guns, the chemical sprays, the rape rooms, the disapeared persons, the mentally ill shot and electrocuted to death in the streets and cells and airports by public servants who couldn't pass the test to be a city cop or an fbi agent. If any of you county cops and jailers in my area can read, please don't take offense, I know you grabbed the only lifeline out of the trailer park you could find. You easily might have ended up on the other end of that taser. congratualations on making it.
Any block I get here should be up by the time I'm out of the insane asylum.

Twenty to one he did not get his meds. Twenty to one they didn't really care if he needed them.

Had a friend worked as mental counselor at Fort Worth jail, he said it was a snake pit and the inmate's med needs weren't ever being met. They have this chair there where they tie the guys to it for hours if they seem out of control. Guys who most times just aren't getting their psych meds.

Later the local paper had a huge expose of the lack of medical treatment, mental and otherwise, at this jail. Interviewed inmates and ex-inmates - well, the ones that didn't die there - jail employees, lawyers, family members, got statistics. It was a huge front page placed article that went on for like four or five pages. Really got the expose treatment, painted a godawful picture where guys have died tied to that chair, and they regularly die there for lack of basic medicines, and just the general unnecessary suffering. Then...... nothing.

Like it was never written.

I mean, we can't worry about Elizabeth Smart/Laci Peterson/Natalee Holloway/insert next missing pretty white girl here, and the suffering of inmates at the same time, can we?

I am a pathological rule follower and good-behavior model cause I never ever ever want to end up in the hands of this state on any level.

If it helps, cause I can tell how angry you are, it isn't like this everywhere. There are states that actually take care of the people in their care. We just happen to be in one of the bottom three: Texas Mississippi and Arkansas, on all indicators of social care.

I've read that there have been a lot of deaths resulting from the tazers.

Tazers are a charming part of the modern world I havn't caught up with. We had electric shock things for cattle. I guess it's part of the humane technological fix. Allow me to express my disgust (and heavy handed irony).
